Another Audio upgrade thread!
Hi everyone. I've read a couple of the audio upgrade threads that have popped up in the last few weeks so I thought I would add to the mix, mainly because I've gone even farther with my audio upgrade than what's been posted to this point. While I love this SUV for all the same reasons everyone on this forum does, I can't drive without high quality sound. Having come from a M2 with the HK system I had a pretty good idea what I would be getting in my X3M (I also full customized and upgraded my M2's audio as well). But to be frank, I don't know much about the technical side of audio systems, just that I need mine to sound exceptional. So here's what I've done:
Center channel: Morel Intergra 402 coax Front doors: Morel Hybrid 402 component set Rear doors: Morel Virtus 402 component set Front seats: Gladen 8" mids 1 JL Audio 10w3 sub 2-JL Audio VX 600/6 1-JL Audio 600-1 (sub power) 1-NavTV kit (as I removed the amp) As I'm sure some of you have seen, the space where the amp sits is quite large. The team at Soundworks (Millersville, MD--HUGE shout out to them!) took that as an opportunity. They pulled the amp and rack, built a custom rack, and hung all three amps plus the NavTV kit. Our initial thought was to put the amps and sub in that space but when I decided to power all of the speakers, I needed an additional amp and using just the well in that area wouldn't work. We also discussed pulling the spare tire and using that space but ultimately decided against it. As you can see from the couple of pics (sorry I don't have more) we maximized the space for the amps and my sub box takes up just a little bit of room. I can unplug and remove the sub box anytime I want if I need the space. As you can see from the pictures my installers also created a custom cover for the amp area. Fit and finish by this team was amazing. My early impressions of the newly created sound stage is just bonkers. Highs are clear, mids are strong, and the low end bass is killer. The mix is really good and I'm taking my time breaking in the speakers so I can have the sound stage adjusted to my ear exactly in the next month or so. While I love my X3M, I really love high quality audio in my cars. So instead of a new exhaust or wheels...I invested in the audio. Hope you all enjoy what I've done. |

We actually chose the JL 600/6 amps because the DSP is integrated so I didn't have to buy a separate processor.

When I stopped with car audio JL had just brought out their first DSP. Now they have it integrated. I assume other manufacturers are doing the same thing.

Love! Probably sounds killer. I did all this in my 95 pathfinder back in the day lol
I just got a full set of bavsound for my x3m, it should be a big upgrade but def won't scratch that bass itch. Doing it tomorrow so hopefully I'll know quickly.

Its the NTV-KIT969. My car was apparently the first X3M to use it so it took NavTV a while to ensure my installer it would work. But once Soundworks showed them the amp set up they quickly knew it would work...and it did.
