difference in wheel well covers & correct size fender screws

super basic. but i need a new wheel well cover. i see some have a slotted square and others are solidly covered. ref the dif in these two. my question is what is the purpose/importance of that square hole being slotted? on the drivers side theres nothing behind it, and passenger side is an oil cooler. links to each im looking at below.

slotted

solidly covered

also, i thought i had oem fender screws but they are not working the clips on a replacement splashguard i got, so im guessing a shop used whatever they had at some point. what is correct size screw and clip, m6 1.0 or something else?

Slots are for ventilation. Look up the fasteners at https://www.realoem.com/bmw/

I don't think you need slotted. Mine are slotted to allow air to pass from the auxiliary radiators in the grill out through the wheel well. I don't believe the 328 would have those, but others can correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd say he needs to get the same configuration as the one he's replacing.

i went w billfitz recommendation. its the sports model so maybe yes needed albeit minimal. the oil cooler is the bigger concern altho i hate the thought of the amount of debris thats get in both side from those.

billfitz thanks for that amazon link, ive seen that but review and one with pics shows may be slightly dif, also says e90 not f30 which makes me hesitate. altho the ones that screw into the "chassis" must be right where as most the others use same size clips as screws around the fender coverings where they screw into each other.
