So then what do we think?

https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-ne...swagen/golf-r/

I think it looks better than the M135i (no too hard) and I like the seats. If I was to go down this route think I'd wait out the R400. VW seem to dropping hints a lot it will happen this time which I'm quite surprised about.

For me, much much better than the GTI.

The interior doesn't look as jewel-like as I'd hoped.

bah humbug.

I've never liked the styling of any Golf R (post R32), and don't like the front end of any Golf Mk.8. This thing never had a chance with me

GTI 7.5 for me, please, or a M135i.

I like it - better than I was expecting styling-wise, not being a fan of the Mk8 - but am perhaps slightly biased given I’ve got a 7.5.

Only a second slower around the Ring that an M2 Competition, which is impressive.

I noticed that time, hugely impressive and faster than an F80/2 original 7:52 I think?

If they start chucking them out at £250 a month I'll take one as a second car. I don't suppose that will happen again though. I prefer the M135i

Looks too tall and bloated to my eyes. It'll go well, and will no doubt be a brilliant combo of performance and daily practicaility, but it doesn't have enough of 'it' to tempt me.

looks like a mini me Tiguan to me !!
not a fan of the " tall car" at all .
the new golf looks to be loosing it's albeit bland identity , and looking too much like the rest of the "tall car " be range .
not for me .

I'm confused..

It's within a few mm of the size of the previous model. That certainly doesn't appear tall and bloated.

Having said that, I'm still not a fan of the front.

I own a 7.5 Golf R and it's a good all round car. I like the exterior of the new one and the interior will probably grow on me as although the 7.5 is nice, it is a little dated compared to what Merc etc are now doing.

However, the biggest bang for your buck and I think the nicest looking with standard spec which you don't need to add to, is the Arteon R. It's almost a S5 for two thirds of the money

I think the estate version looks particularly good.

Lease deals are horrendous at the moment though and that's just for the most powerful petrol in R Line trim. I think the R is going to be coming in at 650-700 a month when prices are finally announced.

You can pick up a SE one around £250 per month at the mo. Bargain

I just watched the beginning of the video again. Ah, she's not driving the R - that might explain things

In that case it's a crap video - if marketing can't convey it's message (accurately) and pretty much immediately then I have no interest. I just saw 'fat blue car' = the new R = not for me.

It needs the R Line to look good in my opinion.

It's like who buys a SE BMW anymore?

The first time I watched it I got bored and didn't make it to the warehouse scene.

Anyway, I'm off to SpecSavers. In my big fat grey estate.
