You guys getting manual or DCT?

I was dead set on manual - this was going to be my first manual in a decade from my DCT M3 comp. I drove a manual m3 comp today and I don't know how to feel after that ride.

The manual engagement factor is obviously there, but BMW waters it down a bit with the auto rev match feature and giving gas while you let go off the clutch. The DCT really makes the s55 feel special and I truly missed it for that 15 min drive- I could add the DCT to my order but it'll then make the m2 so closely specced to my m3 that there wouldn't be a point almost. Not changing my mind again but I need to rediscover my love for manual and wish I had more than 15 mins to do it

What transmission did you choose and why? I wish I had more time with it!

I, like many, went back and forth on this a lot. In the end I went manual. I felt the goal of this car was to be light weight and a tribute to M cars of ole. To me the 6MT was a way to shed some weight and maintain that engagement. Either transmission will be awesome and it comes down to your use. It's going to be a fun engaging drive either way but sure the 6MT will be very fun.

Manual for me.

I agree that the manual nannies make it less engaging.

Yes, you can turn it all off ONLY if you turn DSC off 100%. Not ideal.

You can also program it off with Bimmercode without having to turn DSC off, but if you want it back on you have to go through Bimmercode again.

There's no auto rev match off function by itself in the car.

Good to know about bimmer code- that’ll help. Overall clutch engagement and tranny feel was great

The reports (professional and on here) have been trending favorably for the MT on the M2 CS - very encouraging. Looking forward to it. Never seriously considered DCT, as good as it is. I get that a sport auto transmission can be fun and engaging, have enjoyed them myself over the years (though never owned anything other than a manual). However, of all BMW's, the M2 CS begs for the stick. No doubt if you went with DCT you'll love it as well.

I'll be turning off rev match with bimmercode early before I start getting used to it, and from what I've read the Ultimate Clutch Pedal may be a high-priority upgrade in due course.

For all of the typical reasons I'm going MT, but the one reason I had in my head in favor of the DCT was how fun the S55 can be as it's a constant rush of torque with that transmission.

If the CS manual feels like the Comp manual then I'll do a AutoSolutions SSK for that snickity snick ...and already planning to delete the CDV and the rev match.

A deal with the devil, I choose a MT with rev match than a DCT with rev match.
I am getting old, bald and lazy.

One thing to remember is the Sport Automatic Transmission is still a ZF 8HP in BMW lingo, very different than the DCT.

I went with DCT. I don't want to see the CS as a tribute car, but the best of what BMW is capable of today.

For me that's the DCT. I've had one for 6 years in my F80 and love it. I hear people describe the manual in the M2 CS as ok or good as far as manuals go, but people whom have the DCT also seem to love it.

I know some people love the manual experience and it's great they have the option. But a dual clutch transmission with paddles is also a lot of fun and I hope you get the one you want, and not feel pressured to pick a manual to be a 'proper' driver.

I get the distinction, and was talking very generally about a good "automatic". My son has a 2009 128i - entry level model with "only" 230HP inline NA 6 (love that engine, and it has a beautiful, deep note on this car). The only thing on this car that disappoints is the crappy automatic transmission. DCT is light years from this, and is a fair trade with the manual. Truly just a personal preference.

Love that we can disable the rev match on the MT .. I plan to have some fun with it before disabling it. bimmercode pays for itself again and again.

I agree. I knew I was going 6MT from the beginning, but I agonized over it a lot more than expected.

A tipping point was that I felt my previous car adapted to the lazy driving when I put it in auto and I didn't like that. I tend to not drive MT in a lazy fashion. I lean towards zipping around in a lower gear at higher rpm even when driving slowly.

Edit:. Forgot the point.... This can be done with DCT, but MT doesn't leave the option to poke around in auto. The flip side is that on long hwy cruises you can't shift into 7th to quiet everything down with the 6MT. I don't think there is a wrong choice and I would likely have been happy with DCT. I'm fortunate my preference also saved 3k

When I test drove an M2 comp the SA told me the auto rev match was able to be shut off in the menu options. Could be wrong since I don't own one just going on what I was told. (was a 6MT)

I can confirm that there is NO dedicated on/off switch for rev match through menu options or otherwise. It can be disabled if you completely turn off traction control in sport plus. Or it's done via coding.

So in Sport plus, an M2 still has Rev matching?

My M5 if you are in sportplus, rev matching is off.

In the M2C, sport plus alone doesn't disable auto-rev matching unlike in the F80/F82 or your M5.

Correct.

The only way to disable auto rev matching, without reprogramming, on a manual M2C (and I assume M2CS) is to hold down the DSC button until all traction control is 100% off.

It does not matter what mode you are in.

DCT for me, it's a daily and it's faster
Plus, had the DCT on my OGM2 and on Comp and it's so good I couldn't/didn't want to give it up.
