Hi

Is it possible to get power to the 12v socket in the armrest without the engine on? I may RTFM, but reckon it maybe quicker to ask here!

Just got a Kensington LiquidAux which although I've only tried for 5mins seems like a great solution on my non-USB car. I think I may stick the remote out of sight behind the wheel on the back face of the right spoke with double sided tape - I didn't realise that you can remove the remote button pad from the awful steering wheel clamp and it is really tiny/thin - about 4mm thick, just the size of the 4 way button - very unobtrusive.

This is pic of what I'm on about - the remote control itself is only the size of the 4way button and 4mm thick, not the whole strap thing. This is a great selling point they are not promoting enough!

I have one, and generally works well to play ipod, but remote control hopelessly unreliable (interference??). Works OK car switched off etc, but very hit and miss when driving. Prefer to control ipod directly and use unit as a charger/aux in connector.

OK, had a bit more of a play now - the remote is more like 8mm thick, exaggerated there a bit earlier. Plus, like poster above, the remote doesn't seem as reliable as it was when I first used it. It doesn't seem like weak signal type interference on mine, as the light flashes in the charger unit everytime time I press a button on the remote - it seems more like the iPhone doesn't always decide to do what the remote wants. It did give me a message about "do I want to go into airplane mode" as it might reduce interference, when I plugged it in, but this would stop you using it as a phone at the same time.

This setup does work fine as both ipod and phone by the way - you can make calls and it fades out the ipod whilst the call is in progress.

Tried the remote today on a trip and it worked perfectly.

Also, I figured out how to make the 12v socket come on without starting the engine - all you do is put the key in the slot and push the start button with your foot off the brake - the engine won't start but all the car systems will power up including nav etc.

...someone just asked me about this and I thought I had posted some pictures. I can't find the thread, so here are the pictures again.

I fitted a Kensington Liquid Aux and Brodit iphone holder under the armrest as follows.

I like it as it means you can slot the iphone into the cradle with one hand without looking - no faffing with connectors etc. - and it then charges and can be used for music through Aux In. Changing tracks is not that easy - but not a bad option for a non-USB early car. It comes with a remote with play/pause/FF/RWD.

This is the brodit holder screwed into the cradle blank (the whote foam strips protect the car)

...you can see the remote control in the last picture. I then moved this behind the steering wheel.
