Fuel line cracked, good customer service from Precision Raceworks

2011 335is with 90,000 miles. I put the the Motiv Motorsports ethanol content sensor and engine bay short line kit on early last summer and never gave it another thought. I've read that using ethanol can hurt your oem fuel lines but I've never seen any proof of of it so I never bothered to replace them. Then last week when I went to start the car and the check engine came on and it wouldn't start. The smell of gas was horrendous as well. It was pouring out onto the garage floor under the engine. The hose was leaking right before the connection to the fuel pressure sensor, which is right before the hpfp. (Or where where the blue connector is on the last picture.) I ended up cutting off the bad part and hose clamped the shorter piece on and went looking for new hoses. I tried to order new lines from Motiv and Fuel-it as I used them for the ethanol short line kit and my upgraded lpfp, buth they never returned any emails. I found Precision Raceworks by accident and they actually answered the phone so I didn't even have to email them. They had the new fuel lines out to me in two days. New hoses went in very easily and their quality was great. It wasn't till after the job that I realized that the part of the hose that was leaking may have been from Motiv's short line kit and not the original hose. I'm going to have to research that a little more and let Motiv know if it was their hose that failed.

So moral of the story: replace the full line(s), tank to HPFP?

I need to do this and to replace the fuel regulator, and maybe add another inline fuel filter.

Fuel systems are expensive as Fudge.

If I had to do it over again, I would have replaced the lines when installing the ethanol sensor. It took longer to undo my installation of the ethanol inline sensor and then relocate the ethanol sensor and clean up the wiring again than it did to install the new lines.

In the end the same money was spent, but twice the time was invested as well as the the inconvenience of cleaning up a huge gas spill.

Actually the moral of the story is if you are replacing fuel lines with aftermarket ones, make sure they are ethanol compatible. Rubber lines will not suffice. PTFE line is what you need which unfortunately is 2-3 times more expensive. If you cheap out, fuel will leach through the rubber and will smell then eventually the line will get brittle and crack.
