Battery charging

How do you guys charge your 12v battery if you have to? My parking space (underground car park below flats) doesn't have any plugs nearby so I would have to take the battery out and charge it at home. However, since the boot is released electrically, what's the normal process? Lock the vehicle before disconnecting the battery and just the leave the boot open? Or close the boot afterwards and then either connect the charged battery to the terminal in the engine bay using cables or try to release the boot latch from inside?

The key part of our key should get you into the car okay after you remove the battery, and supplying power through the hood terminals 'should' get the trunk open...maybe leave the back seats down just in case?

I wouldn't leave my trunk open in a public space, but I live in a country of lawlessness with millions of illegal baby immigrants running around murdering us and stealing our ballots, so the UK is probably much safer for your car.

The last part gave me a chuckle and then I see you are in NJ too! Atleast our gyms are open now and we can all be healthy 😁

Do you have to register it as a new battery after installing it back with a fully charged state?

I've actually always wondered about what the car thinks of my charging it while it's in the car too.

Technically, it isn't a new battery, so registering it as such 'might' cause the car to slightly undercharge it, but honestly, I don't know.

No, there’s a battery sensor that monitors the state of charge. Probably it’ll briefly try to charge, realize there’s a glitch in the matrix, and reset current state of charge to reflect actual status. After that regular charging patterns will resume.

Thanks, Chief...that's good to know. I charge mine regularly, especially now with covid around.

You could take your batterie home. To open the car you use the "nomal" key, open the bonnet, connect your battery to the charging terminals then open the boot and the rest is known.

If you charge via the underhood posts, then the IBS (intelligent battery sensor) is able to monitor the charging current and all’s good. It’s only if you bypass the sensor by charging the battery directly via the battery posts that the sensor gets out of sync. But as I mentioned that’s only temporary until you start driving.
