X3M MY21...2 Weeks In

I've had my X3M for a couple of weeks now and done about 500 miles, mainly shorter town journeys but also some longer dual carriage way trips and thought I'd give my impressions of the car.

I was worried after ordering and reading some of the comments by owners about the ride that it'd be terrible and maybe I'd bought the wrong car, but it just isn't. I don't know if its changes in the MY21 but the ride is very good, its not much different from my Jaguar XFS which was very good and my wife and kids have all said that it actually feels better, which was a bit of a surprise.

Power delivery I actually like, I don't understand the comment about lack of torque as this car is pretty rapid, even at speeds, but also find it picks up very well and past 2000 rpm its picking up speed at a pretty decent rate. I do find it deceptive in that its actually travelling much quicker than you'd think from the total lack of fuss and how smooth it is.

The ID7 and new dash I love, it works brilliant and the wireless charger and wireless carplay are excellent and work everytime. Only thing is music from Wireless carplay is quite quiet but thats something thats common to system as my wifes Mini JCW acts the same. Them deprecating the Spotify App is a shame as using it integrated straight to the car would have been nice, but then Carplay sort of negates that

I love the interior and pleased I went for the Adelaide grey, its just something a bit different from the last few cars I've had. Seat I find very comfortable and easy to setup the driving position to where I want. Elder relative are finding getting in and out of it much easier due to the increased height and thought it was as nice to be ferried around in as the Jag.

Fuel economy is cominical but then its a 510hp M car so it is what it is. I have a problem with the external temp sensor which has meant 2 trips to the dealer and doesn't seem to be resolved but will see how it goes over the weekend.

All in all in very please with it and my experience so far.

Thanks for your review , when I test drove the 2021 x3m competition I didn't find the ride to be too stiff as many journalist and forum members report. I had a chance to drive over some poorly paved roads with potholes in a city and to me it was firm yet compliant.

I have a my20 X3M comp and I have never understood the ride quality complaints.

My wife would always complain about my stock M3 comp ride and never liked riding in it. Now in the the X3M she's ridden in it more over the past few months than she ever did the M3 and has never once mentioned the ride.

Which tires did you get on the car? I've read that they softened the suspension on the 21 vs 20. That being said I drove a 20 and didn't find it any stiffer than my fiancé's e92 Comp.

Is there a part number change on springs and dampers on the 21? Only way to know for sure.

About the music, does it help if u adjust the volume on the iPhone? I find that works, in addition to using the Car's audio control.

my ride is firm rather then saying its harsh or terrible. I have conti 6 but people who switched them to new pilot sport 4 all season reporting that ride got improved and less firm. I'm jumping on them next week. so I'll see how it drives.

I like the firm ride but then again I am used to them M cars.

I did a 1600 mile road trip to Utah… Zion national monument and bryce Canyon. Flagstaff , roar 66 etc. Cruising about 80 to 90 miles an hour… Or more. A very very very lot of wide open throttle passing on two lane roads. This car really really shines when passing at these speeds 50 to 80 mph… For the entire trip I got 20.6 miles per gallon
