Question Overheating after new thermostat + water pump - No codes: How to diagnose?

Hello everyone,

I recently did a turbo rebuild + FBO. While doing that I replaced as "preventive maintenance" water pump + thermostat.

I drove the car during 2-3 days (200km) and everything was great, but suddently I got the yellow overheating warning followed by the red warning. I checked quickly with INPA and I was getting coolant temp of 115-120ēC.

Could you help me diagnose what's wrong?

- No error codes
- Coolant level ok / no coolant leaks.
- Battery power distribution box is ok
- 50A fuse on ECU box is ok
- Water pump seems to run? (INPA)
- Can't do bleeding procedure via gas pedal

Today I started the car and monitored with INPA and MHD while stationary (idle almost all the time):

*after it hit 119 I took the screenshot and turned engine OFF, but no warning lights today.

Could be the new thermostat stuck closed?
What else can I check?

----------------

UPDATE: I replaced few days ago again Thermostat + Water Pump... now no issues and everything works as expected!
The old water pump had no name (chinese), so probably was the cause of the fault. New is VDO/ Continental.

.

So did you bleed the system at all? If you can't activate the bleed operation through the gas pedal method(ignition on, lights off, heater max temp, lowest fan setting?), then what about using INPA as seen on your screenshot?

Yes, it worked and I could bleed before first start up.
With INPA now it won't work.

i had not same but similar problem, it was a wiring to water pump eaten by animals (or broken metal at point where its connected to minus pole) and pump was working fine at idle without moving, but after some riding wiring moved and pump wasnt going some time until it overheated. So maybe may help checking of electrical wiring around the water pump.

Also, I want to add:

Hose from thermostat to radiator (nē11) is not hot, even when car is at +100ēC it's touchable, it's not cold but not hot.
Nē10 gets hot quickly after start up (engine to radiator), and you can't touch it.

Here something is not working fine even at idle...
You mean the Ground connection of the water pump connector?

VDO/ Continental is a much better unit. Glad to see you figured it out.
