Tire pressure Recomended

I got the warning message yesterday. It said my tire pressure are low. So I checked them all and they were all to the spec per the sticker. But the message show 42psi recommended for front and 52psi for rear. But tires MAX ARE 50psi.
So I'm totally confused

Do a cold (more than 5 hr rest) pressure check at home if you can.

Alternatively the pressure recommendations does go higher after a short drive of more than 2 miles.

So if you do 52 it must be after a drive.
This will go down once the vehicle cools down.

Assuming you have the correct tires settings in iDrive.

I had a similar issue, door jamb indicated 32 / 38, tires had 41 in them, lowered them to the 32 / 38, and got a warning on all 4 tires. Went into the tire settings in iDrive, and it was set up for 22" summer tires, changed it to 21" all season which is what is on the car, and no more warning.

This is important because many vehicles are sent with over inflated tires from the factory to avoid flat spots from sitting. Really you need to do a manual cold tire pressure check like the old days. At that point when you know its correct, reset your tire pressure monitors.

I know, even on the sidewall it said max. 40 lbs when seating the bead, and they had 41 lbs cold.

The suggested tire pressures are adjusted for tire temperature.

I noticed it changes based on how hot the tires are.

Actually I had same issue and was posting on it.

There is setting in the iDrive asking about what speeds do you drive with, if you set under 100MPh/h then you get similar to the sticker, however if you set above 100MPh then this will start suggesting much higher pressures

Make sure it shows the below 100MPh and all will be as you expect 🤩

Unfortunately dealers have no clue about it...

^ This....

The TPMS in the X7 is "smarter" now as the recommended tire pressure it tells you takes into account the real time tire temperature inside the tire - which of course changes (gets warmer) as you drive, and causes pressure to increase. The system goes further by adjusting the pressure recommendation based on the type of tire installed on the X7, summer vs all-season/winter tires. This is helpful so that if you have a low tire pressure situation while out driving, you can accurately re-adjust your tire pressure without the need to wait until your tires are cold again - which will only happen after an extended period of time with your car sitting (like overnight).

That said, it is still better to check/adjust your tire pressure when cold if possible for the most accurate tire pressure setting and performance. Keep in mind that the "max" tire pressure that you see stamped on the side of the tire is actually the "max cold" inflation pressure. So when the tires are cold, you should not go higher than that pressure stamped on the side of the tire. It is not uncommon that under normal driving conditions, the tire pressure can actually go higher than the stamped pressure on the side of the tire, just due to the normal heat generated by driving that causes an increase in pressure.

So each time we inflate the tires, we need to reset the system via iDrive?

No. Minor adjustments in tire pressure do not require resetting the TPMS in iDrive.

Today for the first time I received a low tire pressure warning. The temperatures have dipped to 48 degrees at night so I assumed this was the reason. When I checked the tire setting it was set to winter. I have summer tires installed. I have never checked this or made any adjustments in the past. I set it to summer and selected the tire displayed which was the right one (stock conti 22" run flats). Then the message below displayed. I will put some air in tomorrow.

The other thing I would add;

Let's assume this was set to summer from the factory. There are only two things that I did that could potentially impact this setting, an iDrive OTA software update or coding via BimmerCode.

Can others who have done a software updates or coding via BimmerCode check this to see if the summer/winter is set incorrectly?

Coding some modules sometimes rests to standard factory. I don't think BimmerCode has caused this. My best guess is mostly the iDrive update.

On a side note. I came to know recently (which Is strange for me) that dealers tend to backup system before update. In my opinion and experience this retains the issues if any are existing.
