Evolve x RK Autowerks F90 M5 Engine Build including time-lapse

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
With our F90 M5 hitting 209mph at VMAX in 1.1miles and having developed the Stage 2+ tune over the last year we knew we were right at the limit of the stock engine, and to go any further we would need to build the engine.

This is where our friends in the US RK Autowerks come in, having been building the S63 engine in the F10/F90 M5 for a few years, and then taking the car even further with uprated turbos we knew they were the choice to take us to the next level and see just how far we can push the F90 M5.

Now you all know what our ethos is - A car has to be good to drive and reliable - So this is what we hope to achieve, by curing the weak points in the S63 engine, we can safely put much larger GTX 3076R based hybrid turbos on and crank the boost up.

Enjoy the time-lapse of the engine build!

So interesting to see the process in video. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together! Have you seen any other engine with 8 bolts holding the main caps on the crank? I wonder why BMW went to that extent with their design of the engine, yet didn't use forged rods and pistons?

The minutiae of reassembly is pretty daunting for me. All of the little connections that have to be right. I can see why you'd make sure it runs properly before finishing the install!

Hot Rod Build

Fabulous video and build. Congrats on this epic work. Should answer questions by fellow owners as to what is possible and can be done to make the M5 a force to be reckoned with. Saving up for this myself.

Raza Sales@RKautowerks would be best person to ask. Maybe he can chime in.

I imagine the answer would be that BMW knows the motor as built, with no tune, will be reliable. If and when they need to give it more horses to compete in the future, maybe then rods and pistons and 800 horsepower from the factory.

Been following this. Looking forward to the results. I might have to fly Raza out to Hawaii next year to do this. He put the motor in my f10 back together so I know he does good work.

Anything done or needed on the Trans, Diffs, or axles to handle the extra power from the new build and turbos?

I guess we will find out the more we push the platform on. It has been very stout for us so far compared to the F10 M5 which had DCT problems when pushing hard on Stage 2.

Imran you are probably the only people I would let touch my M5 if I ever decided to tune it but to be honest I feel the performance of offer in stock form is plenty enough for public roads. 😜

I’m in the honeymoon period where I’ve come from a diesel 740 and I’m chasing MPG. 😂

Give me a few months and I’m sure I will be saying F it give me more power. 😜

BTW follow you on YouTube and love your vids, don’t take this the wrong way but don’t have the look of a power hungry speed freak.

Imran@Evolve I easily could have watched an hour of that process, some of the time lapse was done a bit too quickly I think. Not sure if anyone else would agree with me but I would have watched an hour long version of it!

Great work by the way, I'm looking forward to the next vmax video
