Forward Alert?

Hello Everyone

I'm mew to this forum and just took the delivery of BMW X7 50i Pure Excellence. I'm new to BMW family to got may question compared with previous experience. I hope I can find some answers here.

I used to drive Range Rover 2018 and I had option of "Forward Collision Alert". When ever the vehicle in front of me reduces speed or if I'm driving faster than the vehicle in front of me, I use to get forward alert on HUD and a noice to alert me. But in BMX X7 I'm just getting an icon on HUD/Instrument Cluster and even that when I'm very close. There is an option to select "Forward Collision - Early" still I don't hear any alert tone. BMW Genius told me that car will automatically apply breaks if collision is imminent but alert can avoid complete situation.

Am I missing something here to configure to get alert tone much earlier than few feet away from vehicle ahead?

Thanks in advance for your guidance,

Regards,
Farooq

You should receive a red alert on your HUD with a series of three rapid beeps. I have everything set to the most sensitive/early setting and it works when a vehicle stops short on the highway or drops speed substantially.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I see Red Car logo as alert but not alert tone at all. Is there any setting I should activate?

Even Red color alert is not visible all the time. Compared with Range Rover, Red Car alter is visible too late even though I selected early.

I do not have any special settings or coding outside of what I posted above. I am not sure if yours is set up the same but if so it should function identically.

Same here, it almost brought me to a stop at moderate (~45 MPH) speeds with a car quickly approaching a tight intersection from the side. This, along with 2 or three late lane changes were the only times it triggered, it appears the audible alert is in conjunction with the braking, not prior to. I for one would be annoyed if this feature yelled at me more often. I would think the shorter stopping distance of the X7 vs your Range Rover, and BMW's trust in it's brake might be part of the different here.

If you're looking for more of a proactive approach, you should probably have ACC on and/or tailgate less.

Agreed, if it was more liberal in it's activation or notification I would probably disable it but if Farooq would like it to be more aggressive he should be able to set it to his comfort level considering the RR's is far more cautious and premature from my experience in our '19 RRSC.

BMW yet to earn my trust on their breaks 😉. Usually Dad sits next to me and when ever he hears forward alert on RR he will issue his alert. Now he don't hear similar forward collision alert in BMW so he is really worried why BMW doesn't alert when forward collision is imminent.

So I have to love with it then and start trusting BMW breaks if unthinkable happens 🤦🏻*♂️

Sounds like you need to activate the Relax experience mode for him in Caring Car.

I’m new to the X7 as well moving from a QX80. I have forward collision alert set to early. I see the red warning pop up but no beeps or braking. My QX80 you could use the distance control to drive the car really without using the brakes. Sort of like the traffic jam assist in the X7 but it worked at all speeds and was separate from dynamic cruise control. I’d like to have this option.

I really enjoy all the tech in these modern cars. But let's not forget to use the most reliable sensor to safely stop our vehicles. That would be the trusty Mark I Eyeball. (Pilot joke for those who are confused)

What's the problem? BMW will show you icon of a car with an exclamation mark if distance from another car is unrecommended, when distance is unsafe a red car icon will popup, then if your car is about to collide the red icon start to flash followed by rapid bleeps and a second after, if the trajectory is the same and driver haven't hit brakes (at least lightly), your car will slam brakes itself.

To have bleeps everytime i get too close to another car just to let me know, i would probably drive off a cliff after few hours.

EDIT: Ok, flashing icon should appear even in advance (i saw it everytime literally in last second before the moment to brake)

Not dangerous enough yet. What you are seeing is the system pre warning. If you still don't do and it brakes, that's when it will audible
