Long service times warning

Hi, everyone. First post. White/Sakhir Orange, non-competition. Leased my X3 M on 5/31, $750/month including all fees/taxes for 36/10 in Seattle, $78k MSRP, 10.5% discount before incentives, 0.0018 MF, $4300 drive off (to cover all up-front taxes and fees). Got the deal from BMW of Eugene and they shipped it up free of charge.

Here's the TL;DR:
  • The O2 sensor is still iffy after the recall (I assume my car got a new one while it was on the lot)
  • Parts coming from Germany are very slow arriving
  • You can potentially get payment discounts (at least on leases) if you contact BMW Customer Service after the final work is completed

I got my car after the O2 sensor recall earlier in the year - I searched the forum for any other O2 sensor posts before writing this. At 2k miles, my check emissions idiot light came on steadily (no flashing), so I took it in to a local dealer for service on 8/25. The part needs to come from Germany, and it's been over 2 weeks without being fixed. There is no date from the dealer about when this part will come in, but there seems to be a part shortage on the West Coast (maybe parts production was affected by COVID plant shutdowns). If your car needs parts from Germany, this could affect you too.

While the dealer has graciously loaned me a 2020 330xi, it's not the car I'm paying for, and I dearly miss my S58. I pinged BMW Financial about whether I'd get a rebate on my payment for this, and they directed me to BMW Customer Service. The CS group will potentially calculate a rebate, but only once the car is returned to me and all costs can be incorporated into the math.

Anyone else having similar issues (O2 sensors needing replacement after the recall, or parts from Germany taking forever)? Thanks.

I was under the impression the first recall (O2 & back-up camera) was a software update and the 2nd recall notice was for a DME update.

I would speak to the dealership about payment forgiveness as well as BMW customer service. You may have better luck with that route. Yes due to current covid issues parts have been slightly delayed on arriving. We are dealing with that here and there as well. ITs a hassle! Hope you get your ride dialed in asap and you are up and running

I finally got my X3 back on Monday. It had been at the dealer's for 2 solid weeks, waiting for a replacement rear axle differential sensor. Part was on order & coming from Germany. They painted the bottom of rear bumper while they had it, as it had some paint peeling, as others have experienced. It was a long two weeks. though. The base X3 has the new dash & felt like driving a sofa. Me no like.

Leads me to ask - how long do I have to wait for paint to cure? I'd like to have PPF installed on that bumper area.

I’d ask the dealer to swap me into a nicer loaner.

Thanks for the feedback. Good info. Thankfully I have not had any issues

Back in October, my G01 needed an O2 sensor (light came on the day after delivery) and it took exactly one month.

They servicing dealer gave me another G01 and my selling dealer negotiated waiving the final two lease payments.

My wife drove only the loaner and managed to put 3000 miles on it...
