Chances of a PHEV X7?

So we were shopping around this weekend and drove the X5 45e. While it was nice , it was too similar to our 530e just more headroom. We need a bigger SUV and want to stay in the PHEV category. Any clue if they will ever offer this before we jump ship to the Volvo XC90?

I gave up waiting, thought it was going to be this fall, spring is the soonest possibility.

If your leasing, the XC90 PHEV is soooo exp on a lease, I had priced one out and a fully loaded one after all the discounts etc the price was high 60s and the lease was almost $1300/month.

Have you driven or owned an XC90? They're nice cars (I owned one), but you're likely going to be disappointed if you're comparing to an X5/X7 experience. The XC90 hybrid is overpriced, IMO. Lease a nicely packaged X7 40i and wait for what's coming. I would never go back to an XC90 after owning an X7—completely different level of experience.

No we have never owned a Volvo. Growing up it was always portrayed as an "old person" car. I've always had a BMW of some sort since I was 16. And no my parents didn't buy me it I bought a used E36 as my first car and always been hooked. Only one time in my life did I stray was with a '15 Lexus GS which was also a great car.

The X7 is appealing but also gas guzzling. In CA, gas isn't the cheapest usually the most expensive in the nation. I got hooked when I got my 530e last year and so that's all I would get now. I guess we will have to wait out and see.

And we recently test drove the X5 45e which was great but it was small. Seemed just a "higher" version of my 5 series

If you need a three row, you should check out the Lincoln Aviator Hybrid, in Black Label form it is pretty nice inside. I would think it would be nicer to drive and live with, than the Volvo. I did ask my SA about a PHEV X7, he said he doubted it would have the 45e system as it currently is, due to the weight of the X7. That said, he is positive that every model will have a PHEV within the next 5 years.

Also have doubts

X5 45e is such a nice and smooth drive (we have one, exceeded expectations by far). Would love to have X7 in 45e version too, but, in the absence of which, had to order a “regular” one.

However, the X5 45e battery occupies lots of volume so that BMW had to move the gas tank of X5 45e up to the spare wheel area of the trunk, and this is where X7 hides its 3rd row seats... 3rd row is the must for X7 and doubt it can be easily combined with the battery and elevated gas tank.

If you don't get the spare tire option, there's quite a bit of storage room under the 3rd row. I'm not sure if that's sufficient space to put in a big enough battery to give a PHEV X7 sufficient range. But if they can do it in an X5 45e, I'd imagine they can squeeze it into an X7. But the additional weight from the batteries and electric motor may be too much. the X7 is a heavy car.
