x3/4s are the only models not getting Apple Car Key :(

So I ordered my 2021 x3m comp yesterday. I learned today though, that literally every model produced after July 1st 2020 will have car key support.....EXCEPT the x3/4 models....Needless to say I am very disappointed....why is the x3 models getting shafted with technology? We also don't get the more advanced adaptive cruise control which is SUPER LAME. Just came here to vent.

My guess is because it's an older platform in the lineup so they won't bother updating the tech. Happens to nearly every model at the end of its life cycle.

LCI will likely receive it, like the 5er did.

Yea, I guess I was hoping 21 would get it because they updated the nav and virtual cockpit it would get that stuff too. Or at east car key.

What would you use it for? As it is you just walk up to the car and get in when you have the key fob in your pocket. And I sure as heck aint going to be sharing my digital key with anybody.

From what I understand on how it works, it is great if you are sharing your car to others. Like Turo.

But for me, I am 99% not into sharing my car. Unless it is my beater.

So, just for individual use, it is kind of pointless to take your phone out everytime you need to unlock the car.

Given the x3 importance to the lineup and LCI next year, I would not be surprised if it was the launch vehicle for digital key 3.0 where phone can be left in pocket (like a fob)

Yes G01 x3 LCI SOP 7/21 (for US that's 2022 model year start)

Reference "future bmw model information" thread, post 1, in the general section.

I would not be surprised if the F97 was one year later, for the 2023 model

From what I have read, digital key is going to be an apple only thing now. Some have reported the July 2020 firmware for certain models disables their Samsung digital key.

I have the digital key on my 2020 Z4 and I like it. I wish I had it on my X3 so I would not have to carry any key fob at all.

All 22 models are getting the LCI updates as there have been wrapped test models of both standard X3’s, as well as M’s photographed. Oddly, the only LCI tester spotted for the X4 so far was an M.

On M’s they have the entire front ends wrapped, headlights and bumper, but the rear only had covers over the taillights. Expect the changeover to be the entire model range, like the 5er.

Bmw has synced LCI for M and series models for a while now so it is most likely going come at the same time

Can I borrow the ride while I'm in California?
