Ambient Lights Flashing
Hi,
Has anyone had this happen? I got in my car this morning and all the sudden they just started flashing. I tried to reboot the system by holding down the volume button, but that didn't work. I restarted a few times. Eventually it stopped. Just curious if anyone knows why this would happen and if I should call service? |

Cool. Certainly never happened to me.
You're talking about all the ambient lights flashing in whatever color you have set I assume, right? Not just the flashing red doors you get when the car is running with the door open (in which case might be some sort of door sensor thingamajig, but I'm sure you would have specified that). I'm finding some posts about the G05 and G20 doing this. One states it might have been due to a map update completing, while others about apple CarPlay stuck notifying about a received call (I didn't know that was even an option): https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1629327 https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1637932 Anyway, seems both were intentional notifications by iDrive (with a dash of glitchy-ness for the one), and I would think they would have likely had a notification message correlated to them.

There is even an option in iDrive settings to enable AmbientLight as a notifier (don't know if there is a list of blink codes or something like that).

I posted about this flashing ambient light thing back in Oct of 2019 when it happened to me after trying to play a .mkv video file from a thumb drive. But for me it was resolved after I rebooted by holding the Volume/Power button for 25 seconds.

It was very distracting. I was playing CarPlay but it was early and wasn't getting a phone call. It doesn't do that when I get calls anyway. Wasn't red, I know what you're taking about.
Hopefully it doesn't happen again in the morning. I think holding down the volume button did help. |
