Thoughts on this low mileage M2?

***UPDATE***

So after speaking to a sales rep, it turns out this car is a "Factory Demo Inventory", he said it was used as a driving program car in New Jersey

-------------

https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...=myATCsavedcar

I am planning to buy this car. Its only got 2000 miles but a few things are bothering me.
  • The car had 1 owner, but it was a lease. I feel like people who lease cars treat them like rentals, and drive them hard and don't really care about them since they are gonna return the car anyways.
  • The seat looks pretty scuffed up for a 2000 mile car, they should look practically new.
  • The engine bay looks like its covered in oil? WTF?

am I just over reacting?

How much damage can someone really cause in 2k miles? Its under warranty anyways right?

I would check for other signs of wear & tear to verify the mileage.

Tire wear?
Brakes?
Any other items you can think of (pitted windshield, more rock chips than normal, etc).

It may show 2000 miles on the odo but i've seen people finagle with the miles on modern day vehicles... mainly by 'freezing' the odometer from accumulating miles.

Seat does look like it has some wear for only 2k miles, maybe a bigger guy who scrapes across the bolster every time he gets in/out. Engine just look like they doused the bay in armor all, which always looks like shite

Those seats look like it was a hard 2000 miles. At that mileage the seats And interior should look unused.

Caveat emptor always.

I have no concern about buying a leased vehicle, subject to caveat emptor. Do your due diligence, inspection, test drive, carfax, etc. What you would normally do anyway.

I'd wonder if they followed the proper break-in procedures as well.

Isn't BMW hq'd in New Jersey? Maybe test/m track days/etc car?

The "oil" is just armor all or the like, the dealer trying to make the engine bay look new and shiny, but instead making it look horrible or like a mess

bmw corporate head quarters is in nj...it was probably some vp or presidents daily driver... its part of a lot of executives compensation if you work for car companies.

bmw gives bmw dealers first shot at buying returned leases for their inventory before they send them to general auction.

Trust your gut...if you have an uneasy feeling about the car, don't buy it. Be patient in your search, there will be plenty available...you will know when you've found "the one" because you won't be asking questions such as this.

Performance center cars have to be disclosed, or so I've been told by the M school instructors. They get sold as demos which the Carfax would often indicate a fleet vehicle i presume. A little bit of old news and speculation that someone else may correct. Way better deals out there than this unless you need something today that is close to home. 6k mile clean black 6MT on autotrader right now for $45k negotiable. A few on this forum with more miles around $40$45k with records and history. I'd pass on this one, buts that's just my opinion.

Dealerships will ship. 1450 miles cost me $1150 covered through Montway. An independent inspection with conversation cost $200. You can find what you are looking for a lot less.

Depends on the state when and if a disclosure is required. The "Factory Demos" advertised at this dealer are a mix of corporate employee, film/vip, PCW Driving School, and EETC vehicles.

Wouldn't touch it. Started off at Lime Rock Park then transferred to Thermal. It *could* be worse. Not sure if the vomit odor will ever come out of that AW M2 OG they have.

Ya, that'd be a hard pass for me.

First odd, I bought mine back in 2018 with simular mileage for about the same price, and more warranty, and a few port installed options. You can find a better price.

Secondz you don't know what kind of abuse that 2000 miles entailed.

The engine is fine, someone just din't detail it properly. If the car was cheaper I would do oil analysis to see if it was driven hard without warming up. But, they might have just changed oil now and the test takes pretty long, you would probably have to put down a deposit for them to hold it.

Not worth it at that price.
