G81 M3 GoFundMe for North America?
So we now know that the M3 touring is happening:
BMW M3 G81 BUT: we can't get it in NA! Who here is willing to fund a drive to get BMWNA to bring the G81 touring to the US/Canada/(Mexico?)? They may appreciate the free advertising, and who knows what can happen... |

How much are you all willing to pre-pay? 90k 100k?
The unknown variable is certification cost. Might be easier to import a euro spec G81 on your own dime, probably would be the same cost accounting for paying for VAT, shipping, etc. PS I'm happy with my US made X5M and German M4 vert.

I think it will be easier to get it if there is a change in the marketing departement. Bmw is just stubborn in their anti-wagon mentality we would need somebody a bit more clever from Mercedes or Audi.

Mexico - Yes Canada - Possible but difficult US - Without regulatory change, $55M would be the absolute minimum to actually consider it. |

$55M is crazy high - that's not going to happen! I'd be willing to pay $5k premium above the price of a sedan, maybe $10k at most. Even at my high end, I don't think BMWNA will ever sell 5,500 G81 M3s before the end of production. |

I would love a G81 Touring/6MT, but I trust lemetier that it is not happening.
But, I do think a Cadillac CT5-V wagon *manual* could be a real possibility for the US. We shall see.... https://www.thedrive.com/news/33055/...gineering-boss |

Any idea on 6MT for RHD markets for the G81?

R&D budget must be low to recoup the cost from 1,000 units. Appears that parts will be from the G80 recycle bin. Probably will be offered in one variant only, 8AT MxDrive.

-structural bracing to achieve same stiffness targets as M3 sedan, some of this is probably plug and play from the sedan program -suspension rebalance to account for the different weight distro and load capacity of the wagon |

Drivetrain isn't 100% finalized and this will be a more public development program than usual. 2 variants would be nice (MT RWD, and AT M xDrive). |

BTW I find the $55M in sales required a bit steep. They are building the car for Europe so it is just certification costs, there is no development. Drivetrains, body, etc all have to be built anyway. Merc has figured it out on the E63 despite them only selling a few hundred wagons per year. Audi has brought back the A6 Allroad and is bringing the RS6 in (only this version according to their management). I guess it depends on the margins, but I would expect they probably can certify it for less than $5M actual costs since a lot of the work will be completed as part of the M3 certification. |

E-Class Estate - Main Battery under the hood A6 Avant - Main Battery under the hood G21/81 - Main battery in luggage compartment which is part of the occupant compartment. This where the issues begin. The closest comparison program for a G81 FMVSS compliant variant would be the Range Rover SVA Coupé. Had that gone through, total development cost was approx $115m, $90M of which would be covered by sales. |
