Insurance?

Which car insurance company are you using and why?

I use Geico just because I have for many years. Anyone switch from Geico to Liberty Mutual?

I've been using farmers for almost 11 years.
1) Local agent
2) All my home, auto, umbrella, rental property insurance are through them so I get a good discount.
3) I have OEM parts coverage, Deductible waiver for glass, new replacement car coverage (for first two years of a new vehicle)
4) They paid out out above market value for a car that was totalled 8 years ago.

I have LM for auto and home. I've had a good experience with them. Competitive rates. I haven't had an auto claim but I have had a home claim and it was handled fairly and quickly.

Have had Liberty Mutual for over 2 decades since I've been driving. Have had a good handful of auto claims over the years - they have always used OEM without issue and great to deal with. Low rates. Great customer service.

Also have them for home but never an incident there.

Another Liberty Mutual home and auto holder checking in - mmm close to 3 decades. They've been great to work with especially with windshield replacements LOL... I've had the windshield replaced in every X5 since E70, LOL, and 2 on my F15 and significant left driver/passenger side damage with a pole

These must be non-lease rates because may understanding is with a lease you need full coverage.

Define full coverage?

I'm not leasing, I'm financing through BMWFS so it should have same requirements as lease.

I actually have more coverage than what BMWFS requires.

Wow. Where do you guys all live with such low rates?
My 6 month premium is ~1,000 for full coverage with $500 deductible. This is Northern California with a clean driving record through Geico.

I'm no expert in this area since my wife takes care of this but my understanding is there are legal and lender requirements that may force a more comprehensive insurance plan for leased vehicles that a non-leased car owner may not chose to apply.

Typically leased/financed vehicles have some max deductible limits. I believe for most lenders it's $1k comprehensive/collision deductible.

I'm in the central coast CA region.
My wife's X3 is $1k per year, and my previous MB E350 wagon was $800/yr. Same coverage as my X7.

My rates includes multi policy discounts as I have my home owner, umbrella, rental property and earthquake insurance all with the same company/agent.

Comparing rates with different driving records, different location and different coverage doesn't really give you any valuable info.
Best way is to get a quote yourself from different insurance companies that service your market.

Also good to do it with some regularity as pricing changes.

There's no universal best insurance company for everyone, there may be a best insurance company for your personal situation.

Ok so full coverage is usually defined as liability comprehensive and collision insurance. Ie full coverage.

Everyone will want this insurance when purchasing a brand new car of this caliber and cost whether your leasing financing or buying outright. These cars are over 100k. If something happened to it you’re screwed without full coverage.

The differences lie in deductible limits. When you own the car you can pick whatever deductible you want. When you finance or lease typically most banks require 500 max ded. Also liability limits street generally minimum 100/300.

Now of course if you purchase the car outright all most states require is liability coverage. Again I don’t know many people that would take that chance though with a brand new 100k+ car.

Perhaps you're talking about gap insurance rather than full coverage? You'll need full coverage on practically any car that's backed by a bank (vs collision liability only, which will only pay for the other person's car in a collision). Some car leasing companies will require a lessee to carry additional gap insurance, but BMWFS leases come with with it, that's what the lease acquisition fee covers.

I pay $1094 every 6 months for both my X7 and M3 in PA with progressive. $402 for the X7, $692 for the M3.

I don't understand why people say that insurance is a waste of money. In my opinion, it is something necessary. Just read on moneyexpert.com how many privileges does it give to you. Once I was in a road cafe, and when I went out, I couldn't find my car. I immediately called the police, and they started to search for it. Unfortunately, they weren't able to find it. I called an agent from my insurance company, and they explained to me that I don't need to get upset because my car is insured in such cases, and I can return some money. I was thrilled to hear that.
