Opening the Center Storage Lid???

Most ridiculous post I have ever made...BUT...

Took delivery of my car last week, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to properly open the center storage lid (that covers the cup holders, wireless charging, etc., NOT the armrest).

The owner's manual states that you should push down on the lid to open, but it just doesn't feel like it's designed to be opened that way.

It definitely doesn't feel fluid or natural in its operation, and almost feels as if I'm forcing it downward and forward....like it's going to break over time....not to mention that there's no feedback from the latch itself.

Closing it is fairly obvious (and easy) but it strikes me as being a weird design...am I alone in this observation?

No latch, and you do just sort of push down and forward and it rolls up. It does seem to work, and like you I wondered about how long it would work, but so far, so good.

It’s certainly not fluid either opening or closing, so much so that I just leave it open. On the plus side it’s plus sized

What I do just lightly press down on the indent and flick forward. Here's a quick video I made:

Wow!!!

That operates perfectly....mine is NOTHING like that.

Mine seems like it's about 100x more "damped" than that.

It does retract on its own, but much more slowly and fluidly...

Well, at least this means there's hope....maybe with time and usage it will become easier.

Thanks for posting Auricom!

Anytime!

Yeah, it was a lot more damped, slow and fluid than it is now when I picked it up back in Dec.

I've been opening and closing the bin for 4392 miles, LOL.

Yeah, it's kind of weird, an awkward kind of action is required to close it. I rarely close it since I usually have a mask perched in that space these days.

Since we're in the area, how's your center console latch? Mine pretty much doesn't work. Oh it releases okay, but the doors are wedged in so tight I have to pry them open.

Hmmm....you mean the front split armrests???

Mine are also pretty snug, but do release.

It just seems everything on the car, as far as latches, lids, etc., are a very "tight" fit with tight tolerances when new...again, will probably get better over time.

To take this one step further....

Anyone else feel their glove box door is incredibly cheap and light feeling when compared to everything else in the car????????

I expected it to feel heavy, well-engineered and well-damped (like the cup holder lid!), but instead, it feels like it's out of a 10 yr. old Kia.

It doesn't close with authority, either...

In the big picture, I could care less, but surprising nonetheless.

I tend to leave that area open at all times - my phone is always going in and out, so I just leave it open.

Yeah I noticed that. Hell the one on my F15 feels way more solid and rigid

Gosh - mine definitely doesn't work like that. It opens with what only can be described as great reluctance and a little like a sulky child, dragging it's feet. Closing requires 3 fingers and some force.

It stays open.

I wonder why they didn’t make it operate like the G30, which was bloody brilliant!
I find the closing a bit more awkward to be honest, no real lip to grip when closing. Still looks beautiful in piano black though
