X3 M40d
I keep looking at the X3 M40d's and i have come so close to pulling the trigger, then BMW do a slight upgrade which gets my attention and more often than not i am in favour of that upgrade. I was considering buying new, but i can not justify losing all that money the minute i take delivery.
I am after one with the M seats. When were these seats first introduced as an option on the 40d? The other must have options are Sunroof, Black pack, 21"wheels, HUD, but i'm sure this comes under one of the packs. M Sport + Comfort pack and Tech pack. Pretty much everything really. I do like the look of the new clocks too. I have seen quite a few examples on sale recently for around the 40 to 45k mark. Obviously not all vehicles that i have seen had all of the above specs. I know i will have to compromise on some of the above spec, but i will cross that bridge when i come to it. They do seem quite good value second hand. I came across a 19 plate with 150 mile on the clock with standard spec, very little if any options for 41k. I check all the usual online sites regular but does anyone have any other contacts where i might find what i am ideally after for circ 42k? What are my chances? Colour wise.... At first i was set on Blue only, but i have extended my search to include Black and White. Cheers guys. |

You are pretty much specifying my car but in diesel - M40i in black sapphire with M Sport +, comfort pack, tech pack, pano roof and piano black interior trim. Mine is a MY20 spec. so ID7 (new clocks!) and shadow line trim. Can’t talk to your pricing but coming from an F31 if you can make the numbers work do it....massive step up in my opinion. Black is a pain to keep clean but looks great when it is! |

You could have my X3 M40d for a lot less, several thousand £ less, but, apart from the M Sport Plus 21 inch wheels, it doesn’t have everything else you’re looking for.

Nice to see OP.
Excellent car and likely the best mix of power and efficient in the whole BMW range. My car had 3 of the 4 packs and was worth what you suggested when I traded after about 15 months. The M seats look fantastic, honestly though you could save yourself a fair bit, they'll add very little extra support etc, as long as you're good it's all aesthetic (they do look mega). They will also be a bit harder to get in and out and wear more due to bolster size. As a power train I averaged OVER 41 mpg as I was in a long MWay travel phase. Many will tell you the tyre choice is limited on the 21s and they are right. It is, there were about 3 options when I looked at changing, so I changed the car instead making a great man maths saving on tyres. Excellent car you wouldn't regret it but it in no way does it need every option ticked. Nicer interior and/or those M seats and Tech Pack would honestly suffice but enjoy the shopping experience...the toys are all good!! I think it looks amazing in the white. Pick something easy to clean it's a bit of a chore to wash being tractor sized!

That does look nice in Black. I would be getting mine ceramic coated. That is the only way to go to ease the cleaning of such a big Black vehicle . Thanks for the other replies too guys, but i am pretty fixed on the seats and pan roof as a minimum. I did see one at a dealer in Edinburgh that had my full spec with the bonus of Carbon interior which looked very nice. It sold the day it was advertised. 20 plate for 47k. Nice car with a good discount. Dam.... |

We've got the standard seats in our M40i and even after some long journeys up north had no aches or pains. And they are supportive enough on twisty country roads. I wouldn't pay extra or rule a car out that has the rest of your requirements just in the seats. |

I was in the exact same place to be fair but as I was ordering my car for a Dec-19 delivery to take advantage of the model support it killed the notion for me. The M Sport + pack jumped from £1,700 to £2,700 with the seats being included as I’d lose the BMWFS support (available up to 31-Dec) the seats were essentially going to cost me £88pcm extra - quickly became a hard no!
I’m all for personal preference but as has been said the standard seats are pretty good - just not so pretty. I do think if the seats were a sticking point for you it’d kill your figures as it would need to be a car built within this calendar year..... |

Signs of recession:-
- Forum agreeing with Diesel purchase - No one suggesting an X3M - People talking a man down from options BoE Governor might as well have an account here and save millions on research?

I'd echo folks' comments about the comfort of the standard pre 2020 seats; slightly less comfortable than my old F31 but not disagreeably so, even on longer trips. I'd definitely recommend lumbar support, particularly for more aged backs like mine. If you push the headrests right down and squint they almost look like M seats.... Ok cool, good to know they're comfortable. I was a bit worried that they wouldn't be as comfortable, and I'll have no choice in having them on my next X3 as the M Sport plus pack is a must for me.
