Need Help - New Tires 22"
Hi All - I need your help deciding what the best option is for me.
I need to replace one of my tires in the front and one in the rear. Both have nails in them close to the sidewall. I have stock 22" continental PREMIUMCONTACT 6. Car has 12,000 miles and I intend to drive it another 24,000 miles before I have to turn it in. I do not want to replace the tires again. Do you guys think the stock 22" continental tires can last to 36,000 miles and still pass the lease inspection? Option 1. Replace just the two damaged tires with the same continental tires. Total cost: $777.5 Option 2: Replace all 4 tires with original factory continental tires. Total cost: $1,555 Option 3: Replace all 4 tires with Pirelli PZ4 summer performance. Total cost:$1,378.88 **These have a UTGC rating of 320 and the Continentals have 280 Option 4: Replace all 4 tires with Pirelli All Seasons Total cost: $2,008.72 **These have a UTGC rating of 500 |

If you have 12k miles on them then you will need to replace all four since the wear difference between the four could play havoc with the AWD system.
From what many people posted you will be lucky to get 15-20k on them. |

I cannot remember when a set of OEM tires lasted me 36K miles, especially on a performance car because they are usually somewhat soft, gripping rubber, which is what makes it fun to push the car to limits but takes its toll on the tire wear. Plus, once you use up 70%+ of your tread, tires get noisy and annoying and you end up living with that till you replace them - ugh. If I were in your shoes, I'd replace all four now so you get to enjoy them and not the next owner. I'd replace them with the tires you like the best. In short, I'd replace them all, I'd replace them now and I'd replace them in a happy way Hope this makes sense. |

To your question "Do you guys think the stock 22" continental tires can last to 36,000 miles and still pass the lease inspection?"
NO WAY!!! BMW standards for tire tread depth is high and they will hold that against you. I have a few friends that lease often and not one of them turned in a luxury brand without cost of tires. Maybe you have a great dealer or a dealer that eats that cost to get repeat business but I've not seen a CPO or leases sale car with high mileage wear on their tires for purchase.

Option 5: Replace the 2 damaged tires with slightly used tires of the same brand on Ebay.
Lots of "almost new" tires on ebay that are perfectly fine, and will have a similar amount of wear as the other two tires on the car that are still good. Regardless, you'll still need to buy a new set eventually.... but this would be a low-cost option to get you another 12k miles or so. |

I would never, ever, ever buy used tyres for a performance car and I would put the M50i in that category despite it being an SUV.
As said above good tyres and brakes are essential and you can’t put a price on grip, stopping power and safety. |
