BMW must be constantly upgrading Launch Control and AWD

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...y-the-numbers/

That is getting wicked fast for basically a M5C.

Has to be a better LC and AWD TC system.

I heard the ZF transmission is also getting upgrades and the M5 LCI has the same version as the M8C.

Has anybody figured out why every 2020 M5C model is faster than every 2019 M5C model? Would be nice to know

its a year newer? there has to be things that have changed, even if its just software. for the LCI, add some hardware from the M8C into the mix and hopefully the M5 times come down even more

Not sure why but M8 feels slightly faster to me! Non comp both, I think better traction, despite M8 having horrid Pirellis and M5 wearing M4S

yes, ZF xxx75 tranny vs xxx76 tranny in the M8 (I think starting in like Oct or nov of last year the 2020 M5s got the 76 tranny too). The '21s have the 76 model as well.

faster solenoids, better handling of higher torque, etc.

im sure the software being tweaked helps too, but software wont be able to totally fix a hardware deficiency

The 2018-2019 M5 would shift out of 1st gear early if it couldn't get traction? (not sure if that is the exact reason) It would cause a dip in boost though and you would enter second down on power

Ever since my last update at the dealer my car ('19 comp) no longer short shifts in 1st when launching and my 1/4 mile times are very consistent. It will immediately shift out of second into 3rd if you are spinning too much now though.

So it does seem like they are updating things from time to time

The 2020+ m5 and m8 have a slightly different transmission which never seemed to have the above issue

Evolve also has a TCU tune that seems to fix this issue if you already tuned

Nah
Wouldn't mind a tune if provides warranty and last time I checked now do for M8

So tcu tune would give similar results on 2019s? Evolve and few other vendors have similar offerings for $500.

Evolves car is really moving these days so I would say it would provides good results. I think I saw them on draggy at 10.0x 1/4 mile with just tune + dp + intake + exhaust on an 2018 non comp. Everyone in the 9's seems to be running a WMI kit in addition to all that

I'm sure there are some folks around here that actually have it though and the owner posts here so you might be able to ask him

Ya im leaning towards it. I already have stage 1 tune with secondary delete and Remus straight catback. I was initially thinking to add jb4 to stage 1 as I don't wanna do stage 2 but now confused if TCU tune will be better money spent.

We get the new M8 transmission software, according to my BMW tech (which I think is prob one of the best out there. Trusted 100%)

Why not do TCU tune plus stage 2 ecu tune?

Tcu will mess with ecu flash counter I'm scared to do. Stage 2 I don't want to due to downpipes and stuff. My current tune is thru ecu directly and doesn't mess with flash counter.

What does messing with the flash counter mean exactly? Didn’t the ECU tune already do that?

As for downpipes, I don’t want to do full downpipes either, because of the fuel smell. I was thinking about doing only primary (upper downpipes) and not secondaries which would allow for a stage 2 ECU tune. Do you recommend it?

Ecu tune if done directly to the ecu doesn't trip the flash counter. Primary pipes are a great mod but it is visual to the dealership. A lot of people run it but to me for a 20-30hp gain over stage 1 not worth it. My service advisor was open about it that they won't void warranty just coz I have dps but if something happens and dps are the coz I'll have to replace them with oem and they will see if they can still cover the part or not. For this reason I stayed away from it.

I don't understand BMW, which boast itself to have connected cars.

It would be easy, to update TCU ... Tesla way . During the first 3 years of a vehicle, this update service should be included.

All they do with their connected drive is collect a ton of data without our knowledge. Where does all this data go? What data does it collect? Who have access to this data? Is it written in our contracts they collects this data? Do they have the right to do so ...

About TCU software of the 2020, it should be at least an option to"upgrade" the version of the older version, since it's just a software...

BTW, it's very easy right now for them to track flash, piggyback, your position, your speed without opening the hood of your car ...
