My 2020 X5 M Sport
Hey all...finally bit the bullet and traded my custom 2018. Just could not deal with the prev gen. any longer. I bought my 2018 in March of 2019...as a left over, with only 25 miles on it. Traded it Thursday with only 7300.
I got a really fair deal on the price of the car - considering the very limited inventory (especially M Sports) in LA. And really, only white and black to choose from...I got one of the last Arctic Grays. I won't even go into the hit I took on the 18. Pretty loaded...no HUD, Acoustic glass, or drive assist pro - but alot of others. XDrive40i. It's really night and day from the F15. Had originally wanted the 22's - but now glad I got the 21's with the runflats (never thought id say that about RFT) - but its now a quiet ride versus the F15. Already ordered 800.00+ in misc parts from IND. But not planning on a lot of mods on this one. Took the RaceChip Black GTS and XLR off my 18 - Ben@RG Sport will be installing them once I'm done with break in. Glad to be in this model. Its more in line with what I'm used to from my current Q7 and previous S6.

So - after a few weeks and a WHOPPING 150 miles, I'm still loving my car.
When looking - there were so few MSports available that I was limited - so I chose as close to the options I wanted as I could get. As you all know - BMW and the dealers do weird builds for allocation models. I was sad that I did not get the 3 things I wanted - Sport brakes (600), Acoustic glass (600) and HUD - about 750. Do I miss the sport brakes? I don't drive much so for performance no, but for aesthetics, yes. I asked my sales person why they didn't put them on more cars they ordered since they are so cheap. He said - they got so many complaints from 2019s about noise, wearing out so soon, and replacement cost they minimized the orders. Kinda makes sense. Since mine is Arctic Grey with extended shadow, when i look at the front caliper it has a smooth enough, grey finished surface i could just decal it and it would look like factory. As for acoustic glass - its a far cry quieter than my F15...so i don't really care. HUD - I did actually get used to using in the F15 and my Audi Q7 - but with the digital dash, and how much I don't and won't drive in the next year, its not a biggie. Spacers, RC Black and XLR going on end of next week. Ceramic windshield and front door tint already done. I have swirls everywhere from the dealer PDI...so i'm having that corrected, too. One weirdness is ipod integration...whenever i am using it as a source, after i leave and restart the car, it does go back to the last song, but does not remember its on shuffle. and it wont' until i either back out and go to that play list again or unplug/replug it back in. Minor annoyance. I use Carplay mostly anyway as my library is on all my devices. Overall...I'm kinda smitten.

I've actually STUDIED at great lengths, all the different methods of re-coloring the calipers.
Powder coating is best, but requires downtime, and significant mechanical work to disassemble them. None of the "spray" methods work..... at all.... The Auto-Zone crap in a box..... is even worse. There's new stuff though..... G2 caliper paint.... that is a high-temp epoxy paint, and if done right.... holds up very well. I've read so many positive reviews and tutorials, I bought a couple kits myself, and will be doing it shortly. If it doesn't work.... well.... off to the powder coater. But, I'm pretty confident about it. Unless you want to disassemble and powder coat, that's the best method on the market. Car looks great. Following. |

Actually, the front caliper on it is big enough and has a flat enough space to have a high quality BMW heat resistant decal applied/coated. It's the right color, too.
I won't bother with any brake upgrades until after these have worn out. Its a lease, too...and with Covid I work from home and am driving so little compared to my usual. I make myself drive 20 min everyday just to keep it moving. RE the brakes...even with the Sport brakes, the front has a great caliper, but the rear is just a painted small meh version. SO again - pretty meh. Quote:
