7 digit postcode sat nav question pls help !

Hello forum,

i am new to this forum and have a question about the 7 digit postcode for the sat nav. my car was manufactured in may 2008 and i was wondering if anyone had purchased the dvd so that i can enter the full 7 digit postcodes. i would be very grateful if someone can send me some pics showing the difference in the screen because i have been told you also get 3d view ? is there any member who has already purchased this dvd and is happy with it i.e have not had any system failures and can recommend where i can purchase this dvd from or if there are any downsides to this dvd. any info regarding this will be very much apprecaited. many thanks

When you say 3D view, do you mean Birdseye view? as 3D is only available on the new idrive system.

Professional Sat Nav has more a perspective view (with little naff clouds ), but not 3D height (hills) or objects (buildings) that the new iDrive has.

I can't beleive BMW still insist on not using 7 digit postcode on their system that costs nearly £2k when a £150 TomTom does; it's pathetic.

Once again I couldn't find an address for ages yesterday due to this limitation. Eventually found it but literally took 5 minutes of p!ssing around when a TomTom would take 30 seconds... ...and, relax

I just bought a new TT 730 for me and the missus to use when not in the BM and it's voice activation is MUCH better than the pro nav in the 1er, plus speed cameras are already loaded.

Did you not phone Connected Drive. Everytime I find the limits of the Pro Nav I call up and get them to find. Postcode, hotels, restaurants missing from the listing all warrants a phone call. Its also faster phoning than using BMW Online and Googling the address/business.

exactly +1 on the connected BMW bit. or get your PA trained so she sends all the addresses you need via google maps direct to the car!

I have too & it's still crap, sometimes the database finds it & sometimes it just gives up !

I have the sergie 09/1 disc in and I can't get proper postcode search, I put the road name in. I still don't trust it, my Garmin says go straight on and the Pro satnav is telling me to turn off

bloody poor isn't it I am so used to my Sony unit the pro nav confuses me far more, when I first bought the car I thought it had a fault as it would not let me input a 7 digit postcode , really wierd why BMW do it this way .

This might be the reason why it is not a 7 postcode search...

Germany
Main article: List of postal codes in Germany
Postal codes in Germany were introduced on July 25, 1941 in the form of a two-digit system that was applied initially for the parcel service and later for all mail deliveries. This system was replaced in 1962 in the Federal Republic by a four-digit system; three years later the German Democratic Republic followed with its own four-digit system.

Today, German postal codes are numeric, consisting of five digits since 1993, replacing the separate four-digit systems in place in West Germany and East Germany before 1990. Between 1990 and 1993 the old four-digit codes in the former West were prefixed with the letter "W", and in the former East with the letter "O" (for "Ost", east in German). Even though the western system had kept some number ranges free specifically for later integration of the East should reunification come, it was decided that the time was right to create an entirely new system in the 1990s, in which larger towns and cities would be divided up into multiple postal code areas (the old system had made inconsistent use of additional numbers after the city's name for this), and companies receiving a lot of mail (such as mail-order businesses) could get a private code assigned.
