2021 X6 M50i cost less than my 2020, sorta of...

Comparing the MSRP of my 2020 X6 M50i with the prices listed in the 2021 price guide as shown in the ordering thread, a similar optioned X6 M50i is $1100.00 less, sorta of. Here's the breakdown:

2021 2020
$86250 Base $85650
995 Dest 995
2600 DHP 2600
800 Park Asst Pkg N/A Incl in 2020 Exec Pkg
3300 Exec Pkg 4550
0 Glass Control 650 Incl in 2021 Exec Pkg
150 Spare Tire 150
500 Illum Grille 500
350 Heated seats, 350
250 Armrest/Wheel 250
1080 Piano Black 1080
N/A Acoustic Glass 600
$96275 MSRP $97375

Now the sorta... for the extra $1100 I do have soft close doors and heated & cooled cupholders, included in the 2020 Executive Pkg which I like very much, that are N/A in 2021. Not sure why. And... No acoustic glass ???

Wow are you saying soft close doors are not available for 2021?
That is one of my favorite features on both my BMW's. I think the headed/cooled cupholders are cool, but don't use them much.
Why in the world would they discontinue that I wonder.

Soft close door are on mine and i was looking forward to this feature but they are useless. I thought I would be able to shut the door like one would normally and just prior to it actually closing, the door would meet some resistance and stop dead and then slowly get pulled in, basically to stop the door from being slammed. That's not the case though, you have to virtually shut the door very carefully / slowly and then it will pull in. A normal shutting action is just as good

Push people toward the X7 most likely. Just like they don't have the 3rd row available for the X5 M50i.

Sorry, completely disagree with you. All you need to do is close the door gently until it engages the initial catch, then the power feature pulls the door fully closed & latches it. If you wish to do a normal Closing, slam away, it bypasses the soft close feature. My problem is I am used to the feature, so when I drive my Infiniti without it I am constantly closing too gently & and it does not secure.

I also really like the soft close doors, and like you, I am always closing other doors on other cars too softly and everyone looks at me like i'm crazy lol.

I also hate it that I have to explain to everyone riding my g05 not to slam the door shut.

BMW is mistaken if they think that taking options away will force us all to get the X7. We just dont want it for its sheer size, not its price or options. the X7 is a bus compared to the x5.

Soft close doors is a must to complete a luxury level feel at this price range. I would not buy a vehicle at this price range without it. My children of ages 10 and 12 know not to step on the door sills When getting in and lightly close their doors.
What’s next, taking the top tier laser light option away from the 40i like they do with the X7? You always add features, not take them away.

Bingo. The X7 is a bus and doesn’t feel like a athlete like the X5 does. I drove a lower optioned $84k X7 and it felt heavy, floaty and cumbersome.
I do not want any bigger of a vehicle for my family of 4. I have plenty of room for everyone’s luggage for a 2 week cross country vacation.

Do we know for certain no soft close for 2021? Does not make sense to me, usually BMW does it the other way around - adds features in later model years not removes them. Actually the F12/F13 debuted with no soft close in 2012 & was added 2014.
Maybe it's a part supply issue due to COVID & the shutdown??

Already up in the MY21 ordering and pricing guides and I'm looking at it as a supply issue that could be available next 2021 Mar/Apr production cycle. Note this is my personal assessment and not substantiated in any way.

I think we'd all be conjecturing as to BMWNA's reasoning without any corporate press release.

Dealer sales mentioned low uptake but it's part of an existing package, same as heated/cooled cupholders, electronic rear sunshades on X7s, etc but I'm on the side of supplier issues until things get up and running again.

We had soft closing doors on a 2010 535GT. We didn't order them, they came with the vehicle and they were pretty nice, a surprise really. My wife liked the feature so much we ordered it for our 2019 G05, but there's something about the X5 and the way we close the doors that it it rarely engages. So if you can't order them you may not notice.

You have a bad calculation. The MY 2020 total is $96,775, which is a $500 difference.

Unless there is something wrong with them, you may be shutting the doors too forcefully, bypassing the soft close.

You are correct. I forgot the acoustic glass option that I have that also appears to be N/A for MY21
