Cool Comfort Seats same as G30?

Question guys, does anyone know if the G05 comfort seats are the same as the Comfort seats in the G30?

Having gotten out of my G30 with comfort seats and now looking at the G05, curious to know if they're the same? I'm hoping not as i never got on with any of the seats in the G30, which resulted in me owning 3 in the last 18 months.

Lower seat side bolster cut into my right thigh, regardless of which seats they were. M sport obviously were worse, but even the comfort (with air and massage) had hard piping that you could feel cutting into your thigh. after a while of driving i could feel my right leg starting to ache.

Since selling the G30 a couple of months back its improved massively to the point i can't even feel it. but when i drove every day, right leg, thigh, hip always ached. Ive read about others with the same issue with the G30. would hate to think its going to be the same with the G05.

any advice appreciated guys

Warning: This is a long comment and photo post. Hope it assists!

TLDR;

The multi-contour (aka comfort) seats in the G05 are identical in functionality and design as the G30 but with different leather pipping and stitched patterns depending on the leather and color option.

NoteThe G30 has contrast thick leather piping in all leather and leather color options - Dakota, Nappa, Merino compared to the G05 which will have it only in Merino leather and in ivory white and ivory white with night blue colors (these two interior colors have a thick braided contrast leather piping), which could contribute to your discomfort.

My recommendation is to have a sit in a G05 with multi-contour in any leather (Vernasca or Merino) and interior color (excluding Ivory white Merino) before removing it from consideration. The other option is the standard G05 sport seats in Sensatec or Venasca leather which I've included in the end of the post.

Comparison: G05 Vernasca / G30 Dakota Multi-contour Leather Pattern
G05 Vernasca has similar leather pattern cut and stitching to G30 Dakota but with less pronounced center piping and leather panels in the backrest and seat cushion.

The G05 thigh bolster leather pattern is also more elongated than G30 and extends half way to the thigh extension, whereas the G30 thigh bolster leather pattern only extends to the start of the thigh extension. The extended G05 thigh bolster leather pattern could alleviate some of the discomfort you have with the G30 since it spreads the stitching more along the length of your thigh.

Comparison: G05 Merino and G30 Nappa and Merino Multi-contour Leather Pattern
In general, G05 Merino has an identical leather pattern cut to G30 Dakota but with different leather detail stitching (upper backrest). G05 thigh bolster leather pattern is also elongated than G30 and extends half way to the thigh extension.

Thank you for such a thorough write up. some great information and pointers here!

I was kind of hoping the lower seat swab was flatter than the G30, especially to help aid the getting in and out of a higher vehicle.

Not sure what's changed with BMW regarding seats over the last few years as ive never had an issue with their seats before. only since the G30 has this cutting into the thigh become a problem. The last nappa comfort with massage, and ventilation were far from comfy. You sat on them, not in them and they were quite firm. I'm beginning to worry that the G05 seats are going to be similar. I would opt for Merino leather of course, but would be Ivory.
best thing i can do is go have a sit in one at some point.
really hope i get on with the seats as i love the new X5 .

thanks again for taking the time to reply

From a personal experience point of nieuw.

I had a 6GT (G32) before with non ventilated nappa comfort seats and now a G05 with ventilated massage merino comfort seats.

The seats are not exactly the same in design but the optimal sitting position is different too. The G32 sits a bit higher than the G30/31 but the G05 is higher. The possible adjustments are the same. The buttons a bit different.

I have my seat in a more upright position now and this makes it easier to get in and out anyway.

The seats are good for me but in Europe we like our seats a bit harder than in the US I think. So I am kind of sitting on them. They are a bit harder than the G32 seats to sit on. Maybe because the ventilated part has a stiffer leather?

If you tighten side bolsters on back you are also sitting more in them. The bolsters in the back release when the engine is turned off to make it easier to get out. It comes back with the steering wheel when driving away. I think it also does a bit on the leg side. Will check it later.

My pleasure TK - 421

One of the updated G05 features that I optioned was the 2-axle air suspension (2VR), which allows you to raise or lower the X5 to 5 different levels depending on vehicle speed and driving mode. When parked, loading and unloading can be made easier by lowering the vehicle with a push of a button (on the center console or in the trunk). The 2-axle air suspension features self-adjusting air suspension components to provide additional response and comfort.

High 2, +1.575" (+40mm), GC = 10.275"
High 1, +0.787" (+20mm)
Normal, Ground clearance = 8.7" (220.98)
Dynamic, -0.394" (-10mm) automatic lowering 87-124mph
Sport, -0.787" (-20mm)
Load, -1.575" (-40mm) only at standstill, GC = 7.125"

I'm 5'6" and what's great about Load level is it helps getting in and out of the vehicle easier. Also the H-point (hip point) height, where the seat is mounted in the vehicle, is slightly higher in the X5 and lower in the X6.

If you're unable to locate a X5 with Vernasca or Merino multi-contour sears and air suspension, is to definitely sit in a X7, which has air suspension standard and same multi-contour seat design and leather patterns as the X5.

I do note that my G05 multi-contour seat thigh bolster has a slightly more rounded taper as it curves to the thigh extension compared to a more angular taper in my G30 (also have a 2020 M550i with multi-contour).

My G05 Merino ventilated and massaging seats and find them more comfortable and cushioned than the Nappa ventilated and massaging in my old F15.

Hope this provides you more data points to considering the X5.
