Motor1: BMW 4 Series' Big Kidney Grille Probably Won’t Appear On Other Models

New M3 will NOT get the new grille?

Have a bet with my dealer right now and he just sent this over.... fingers crossed.

Highly doubt that the upcoming G80/G82 won't come with the lung grills.

It’s called brand identity. My bet is it will have the hideous grill to be consistent with the rest of the brand.

The leaked factory photo from a while back and the test M3 cars at the Norschleife had the big grilles.

Anyway not loving that new 4 series design. The front is ugly. The rear isn't great either, especially those weird fake exhaust tips.
At least the fake exhaust tips probably won't be on the M models. Not that I care too much what the new M models look like at this point anyway...

Edit: saw a video in another thread where it's driven on a track... seems to look better in dark paint colours where the grille blends in more. I might warm up to that look.
Still think it'll look ridiculous in any bright colours though.

I am not sure where you read that in the article, but I did not find any specific mention of this in the article.

The 2-door and 4-door M3/4 have always shared their front ends with the coupe version of the base series with an ///M treatment, I don't see it being any different for the G8X. Further, G80 running prototypes and spy shots tend to confirm this.

Right, they absolutely have the new grill. This has already been confirmed elsewhere.

The article I posted said it was unique to the 4-series

And M3s have had coupe front ends since 1999.

Case closed.

BMW designer talks about grills

Do the quoted comments from the head designer in this article mean the M3 could look different than the 4 series?

We already knew that the M3 will look different from the 4 Series.

Specifically, it will look like the M4 which we saw in last week's leak.

I realize the 4 series and M4 have subtle differences that forum members would easily notice, but the overall design over the 4 series and M4 grilles are super similar.

I like the new grille.

This article just makes me wonder if BMW will make each series visually different again...

They have... the G20 3 series already looks vastly different than the G22 4 series. Plus the performance of the G22 is a bit above the G20 in terms of track width, power etc. So the entire model is differentiated.

However, considering the G80 and G82 will be direct siblings (same power, track width, etc.), and past M3/4 generations have shared a coupe front end, it is almost certain the M3 and M4 will share the same front end.

Yeah I guess based on the designer talking points it made me wonder if the G80 & G82 would not be siblings anymore....

BMW is obviously all over the place (lol) so it made me ponder...
