Why does X4 not offer acoustic glass?

I have been looking exclusively at X3's but just decided to expand to X4's since a large rear area is not a priority for me. I had decided, based on reading here, that I had to have acoustic glass. It looks to me like the X4 doesn't even offer it. Does anyone know why? Does the X4 exhibit the levels of wind noise that the X3 does?

Maybe it's standard on the X4?

Garage List
You can visually check. Acoustic glass has three layers, two layers of glass sandwiching a darker acoustic layer in the center.

Sorry to hijack but does anyone have a part code for the front side windows acoustic glass? The outlayer has cracked on mine and RealOEM doesn't show them.

The US X4 does not come standard with Acoustic Glass and it is not an option (I re-checked the 2020 Guides).

OP, I chose the X4 as well. For me it was due to the availability of the nicer Merino leather interiors. But in addition to Acoustic Glass, there are several differences between the X3 and X4 - some good, some bad. You may be interested in this from a review of my car from a few months back . . .

Comfort is great for four adults. I don’t like large vehicles and I don’t need to carry a hockey team to the rink. So the interior size is Goldilocks just right for me. But the standout is the Fiona Red merino with carbon fiber trim. It’s really sporty looking, and more important, it really lifts whole luxury quotient of the interior. If you can live with a slightly smaller boot and a slightly lighter wallet, the X4 is the better choice just to get the Fiona Red interior imo. On the flip side, I’m disappointed that the dash and door-tops aren’t leather. What’s there is supposed to be SensaTec, but it’s got a fake grain that looks very cheap, especially next to the merino seats. Out back, rear seat room is only slightly less than the X3, and rear seat entry really is no problem. A couple of other comparisons to the X3 – the X4 does not have a rear window wiper like the X3, and it only has a rear fold-down headrest in the center position, as opposed to all three positions in the X3. That’s truly baffling to me considering the X4’s more challenging rear visibility. Even more baffling - unlike the X3, the X4 has NO grab handles at ANY seating position. Wtf BMW? This is supposed to be your sporty SUV. OTOH unlike the X3, the X4’s cargo area floor is level with the load lip even with a space-saver spare. That’s a good thing. However, even in the X4, the spare does take away a couple of inches of height in an already reduced cargo area. Time will tell whether I’ll miss those inches.

You can get Merino leather on X3s as well. That isn't exclusive to the X4.

I believe it only gets shipped out of the USA for X3s.....for some reason they can't buy there.

Oh wow. That's crazy. Usually USDM gets all the good options when it comes to colours and leather. I just noticed US doesn't get Ultimate Package either. Damn.

Ours is Glacier Silver on Fiona Red with UP, no Merino leather would've been a deal breaker.

Ya, for a while they've been saying that for the US, BMW is trying to differentiate the 3/X3 from the 4/X4, making the 4 and X4 a more upscale model. So even with the F30 generation, the US couldn't get Merino in the 3 but we could in the 4. We don't get Merino with the G20, but I'm sure we will with the G22. And it's the same for the F01 and F02.

Who comes up with this stuff?

My guess is market research? Can't speak of how good of a job they do, but from the looks of this forum, not such a good job lol.

I wish I could have optioned in the Merino leather as well... and acoustic glass...

Oh damn. In Canada, you could get Merino leather + upper dash + upper door trims as an option in the F30. I find it really surprising that US being their #1/#2 market would not even get access to higher end features.

US is far away from being the #1 or #2 market.

In global sales BMW Group sold totally 2.5 Million cars worldwide for 2019.

1.08 million in Europe and biggest market in Europe is Germany allone with 0.26 million cars sold
0.92 million in Asia
0.45 million in Amerikas region where 0.36 million of it where in the USA.

In Europe it's no problem to get Merino leather and acoustic glass in the X4. Maybe thats related to 3 times the sales of the USA.

there's a lot of bad thinking when it comes to what manufacturers will and wont sell in the USA. They don't believe we will buy whats already a high end car and then option it up with things like acoustic glass and leather dash tops. But if you look at what people buy on the porshe's when they build it online vs buy it off the lot Americans will in fact buy all sorts of crazy priced things. some of this might be economics of scale but on the same assembly line they are building x4's with and without acoustic glass so that's just a non start excuse.

Your numbers are for regional sales. :

I was discussing it from a country as marketplace POV, in which case the US is 2nd only to China. They sold more in the US than the motherland.

It’s not so clear cut though any more. The Federal EU vs US states.

6ixSpd is right. You can present numbers a lot of ways, but the US is the second largest market for BMW. It's BMWNA that really runs the show here, determining which options to offer, how to package them, and how to market each Series.

But the US market is different for BMW vs Porsche. Porsche is much more of niche brand, and BMW more upscale mass market. In the US, the vast majority of BMWs are bought off of dealer lots, so I'm sure BMWNA has embraced the KISS principle. But the majority of Porsche's US sales are custom factory orders and they've made an art of customized/bespoked models. I'm in the process of ordering a new 911 and so far have selected 36 of probably over 200 different options offered.

Whilst I’m pro-EU in the way the UK used to be a member, ie not in the Euro or Schengen..we’re now out so that’s it. The point about Europe in the context of this thread is that it can viewed as individual countries but those countries are also mighty close to being a United States of Europe. Some European countries are probably more aligned than some US states. Is Europe a single market? Yes it is legally.
