If you are referring to the momentary braking applied to prevent rolling forward/backward on an incline, I believe it is just for manual. After depressing the clutch you are given a few secs before the brakes are released.

2 seconds to be exact I tried and after 2 seconds, the brakes are automatically released.

well its awful. and i thought it was only suppose to function for hills.

I found a thread that called this an issue and referred it to as the sticky brake issue. My 328 loaner does NOT do this.

I think I read that '2 second brake assist' in the owner's manual.

Yup, both manual and auto. Not a big fan of it. You let go of the brakes and it stays then lurches forward after a couple secs. Had it on my Civic Hybrid which made sense since engine would shut down at stops and it helped keep the car in place while it started back up when you let go of the brakes. Drive an auto now (for the wifey) but never felt I needed it when I had a stick.

its great for manuals, definitiely saves the clutch a little on those hill starts. i've never had it interfere with my driving.

I think it's a great feature, especially on steep slopes. most of the time, for my car, the car does not roll backwards even after the 2 seconds.

It's nice to be stopped at a stoplight not having to place my leg on the brake pedal or put the car in park

It's excellent for MT, frustrating and makes no sense for AT.

+1

My car is manual and I also love this feature. My dad had a Subaru a number of years ago with the "hill holder system" (as Subaru called it) and I loved it ever since.
