Help with sport package
Hi
After driving an 06 325xi and not liking the handling I am interested in a getting a used 06' RWD 325i, 330i or 07' 328i model with a sport suspension. What does the 'sport package' option add specifically in terms of suspension and wheel upgrades, etc? Thanks |

I, for one, think the sport package is not for everybody and not for me. The suspension is very harsh and is very annoying on bad pavement. Definitely try it before purchasing it.

I, on the other hand, think a person who gets a sports sedan without a sports package is retarded. If you just want the car for the roundel, then by all means, forget the sport package. But you get the sport seats and better wheels (IMO) as well, which are each worth the cost alone.

If you've got crappy roads, then don't get good looking rims. Get ugly ones, oh and if you get ugly ones, you should have gotten an ugly car in the first place.
Peformance and luxury is always a trade off, you can't completely have both at the same time.

With all due respect, if you're getting a BMW, the sport package should be a no-brainer. I thought about it for like 5 seconds, and a friend of mine looked at me and said, 'You are getting a BMW, aren't you?' That was all I needed to remind myself of. Good luck.

For a grand, you get sports suspension, sports seats, and upgraded rims. A grand for all that? Think about it.

"What's the best 325i spec for those who love to drive? My test car was loaded with both the Premium and Sport Packages topping out at $48,385. That's still cheaper than a 2005 330i, but this year's 325i comes feature-laden to begin with, so sticking with the $2,800 Sport Package would be the enthusiast's way to go. You get a more buttoned-down suspension, 17-inch alloys with 225/45 rubber up front and 255/40 out back. Extremely grippy and supportive front sport seats with thigh and bolster adjustments, and a fatter steering wheel are included as well. And here's an interesting bit: the Sport Package ditches BMW's active-steering system." |

I agree its not for everyone, but you drive an XI, right? I hear people compaining all the time about the harsh suspension on the XI, but don't hear people carping about the sports package. But yeah - 16" wheels are the way to go if you want ride over handling.

Next, I didn't buy the car to show off that I own a BMW pal. I bought it because it's the best sport sedan I could afford. It's a great car with and without the sport package. Thanks, Mike. |

OP, your best bet is to drive a car with sport package and see for yourself. There is a bit more harshness (just going from 16" to 17" wheels/tires will do that) and different people have different definition of 'acceptable harsh'.
Personally, I think the RWD 6MT car with sport package is fantastic, steering is very direct and gives a lot of feedback (but not as raw as a full on sporty car like WRX/Evo) |

I still chose a BMW for its overall driving dynamics, certainly not for its luxury (my prior car was way more luxurious). If I'd have a comment to make to improve the sportiness of the XI, I'd first give it a shorter manual shifter and a slightly less assisted steering.
