Coolant splatter/leak?

I was looking under the hood today and I noticed a white splatter around the coolant tank. I have not gotten any low coolant warnings but wondering if this warrants a trip to the dealer. Anyone else gotten this? BTW this is in a 335i, thanks

the pics dont work. I think I saw something similar under the hood behind the fan a few weeks back, but I sprayed it off and it never returned. I didnt think it was coolant it looked more like muddy water splash.

Hey Bud,

Got your PM. I actually did mention it during a dealer visit. The techs checked it out, and noted "No coolant leak found. No action taken."

I havn't seen any additional splatter since, so I just let it be.

I don't think it would hurt though to take it to your dealer and ask.

This is from slightly overfilling, then heating up the engine quite a bit. Did you top off the coolant when it was cold at some point?

Open it up and check your coolant level. If your coolant isn't low now, this isn't a problem and I doubt you'll see it again. Just wipe it up now so you can see if this is a regular issue.

There's a vent hole on the side of the filler cap where the arrow is -- you can't see it from the angle of the photo you posted. It looks like this is where your coolant came out. That's what it is designed for, to release pressure when it gets really hot. If you have a very full overflow tank, some coolant will escape through the hole. No big deal.

Wipe it clean with a damp rag and monitor it. I wouldn't be too worried at this point.
