I was in an accident today

Sigh. Just going through the claims process now. Pretty sad, 3 weeks if they have the parts. However they said given the damage, they may need some parts which are not available in the country. If they need to get anything from Germany 10+ Weeks due to Corona.

I'm also concerned if there may be any issues matching the paint as it is an individual Tanzanite blue. Which could delay further. I've only had the car 2-3 months. Looks like i'll have no car for just as long. 1500 miles.

No fun. Do love the individual Tanzanite blue color.

Uff - hope everyone was ok.

There have been previous posts on here about availability of parts - some that were easily available for my injured baby and were at the bodyshop hours after being requested were already weeks overdue in the US. Hopefully that shipment was delivered and you'll be ok - fingers crossed!

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I was completely fine, the other car, well it took a hit but the guy seemed fine as well. So that was a blessing. I am actually quite amazed by the sturdiness of the vehicle.

In Australia here. So really hoping any overdue part orders have been filled and things are going along smoothly, but somehow deep down I think this is not going to be the case. Fingers and toes crossed.

Sorry to read that mate but the good thing is you're ok.

I wouldn't worry too much about the paint. My neighbour clattered the rear quarter of my San Marino Blue M4 when it was only 4 days old. I was mortified and also, like you, concerned re: the paint match. However after 4 days at a BMW workshop it was flawless.

The good thing is that your car is relatively new so it's easier for a bodyshop to match vs a 5 year old car with weather wear.

Also worth checking what options BMW have on the insurance front. In the UK they have an option where the at fault party engages with BMW insurance to handle the claim and they'll get you in a car of equal value until your car is returned.

Yeah she owned up and paid the £2k bill. Everything was fixed in the end. It's gutting at the time but it's ultimately only metal. Yours will be right as rain in no time mate.

I had a sparkling bronze metallic 2013 X5 that had paint damage a few years back. The paint hadn't been used for a few years and neither bump shops nor the dealer could find enough to completely paint the front corner panel, front pillar and the two passenger side doors. I ended up with just "spot repairs" and was not satisfied. The good news is, as Unit mentioned, being new provides a much better chance that things will look great when you get it back.

Sorry to see what happened, but glad to hear you are OK!

What a headache, hope that you are able to get a suitable replacement in the meantime.

Curious as to what speed(s) were involved in this...

It’s just a car. It will get fixed and work out. It’s aggravating but a lot less than a back injury. We buy these luxury SUV’s for when things do go bad. Walking away is the end goal.

Sorry to hear this but you're ok and that's the main thing. The car will get fixed!

Out of interest did any of the automatic safety features try to intervene? I'm wondering about the Intelligent Safety, Evasion Assistance, Approach Control, Active Protection or PostCrash systems etc. were working?

I only ask as in Canada/US at least some of these features have only become fully capable after istep software updates installed after purchase. I hope yours was working properly. I'm intrigued if you happened to notice any of these systems working. I'd have expected at least one or more to, based on the damage.

Sucks. I feel for you bro.

Such an exquisite ride. Love the color and laser lights.

Unfortunately the way the accident unfolded the car had no real chance to detect an oncoming collision. So no no automatic safeguards were activated.

Still no ETA on how long it'll take. Fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear . Can you still drive it. That sucks. Do you have laser lights. Did the one on the impact side survive.

Thanks for the well wishes all. I was found not at fault so I am not out the deductible. I am just out 3-10 weeks worth of time, and also well hopefully there is no underlying damage as I still need to drive this for another 4.5 years (lease term).

No unfortunately I can't still drive it. If it was less damaged I would of loved too while I wait for parts (Still not sure how long this will take) but it is no longer road worthy as the headlights don't work and the bonnet is way up high lol. Blocks vision when driving.

Yes have laser lights, apparantly they are $7000 AUD to replace lol wow.

Great news that you're not at fault. On that basis I'd be pushing the other party's insurer to provide a car of equal stature until yours is returned. Not sure how things are in Oz but your legal system is built on ours so hopefully that's applicable (here in the UK you just need to get your insurer to push for you).

Thanks for the tip mate. This is a good idea. There are companies that do this over here for you. They give you a similar vehicle as a replacement then just chase the other at fault parties insurance for the money. I basically get the car for free.

I may go down this avenue if the repairs take a really long time. I do feel a bit bad charging the other party / their insurance (It may effect their premium next year) for 10 weeks of car rental... lol.

Great way to look at it. She'll be as good as new in no time! My condolences too though. Better the car than you right? Be sure and update us on the repairs! Take care.
