Could the 330d be a better choice than 335i ?
Hi,
The new 3.0d diesel engine for the e90 facelift (not available in US yet): - 245hp - 0-62mph of 6.1s - 50-75mph of 4.8s, half a second faster than 335i ! - Fuel consumption: 32mpg in town, 49mpg outside - CO2: 152g/km - From the early reviews it seems it even has a nice exhaust note... The 335i engine: - 306hp - 0-62mph of 5.6s - 50-75mph of 5.3s - Fuel consumption: 18mpg in town, 35mpg outside - CO2: 218g/km Which would be a better choice ? I feel a bit guilty about choosing the 335i I mean, with all that economy and petrol crysis going on in the world... If the 3.0d would be available, would americans still choose 335i over it ? It doesn't come in stick. My only gripe.
The 0.9 for 08's is also impossible to ignore. If BMW doesn't release this car in stick in the future I will look at Audi's TDI's.

I would like it, where did you get the MPG specs, for some reason I thought they were alot lower then that. If that is the true specs I would definitely be interested especially since that engine has over 400pds of tq!

I know you were talking about the 330, I was just saying we are getting the 335d. Does Europe have a different test cycle? Those numbers seem really high.

Even though I like neither diesels nor VW's, the new Jetta (girly car?) will get 45/55. That may be an argument to put out more co2 and pay 80 cents more per gallon...

"- 50-75mph of 4.8s, half a second faster than 335i !" - you might want to try downshifting

for what you pay for fuel over in Europe, I think the 330d would be a better choice. With what you save on the initial purchase, you could put into a remap to close the performance gap even more. |

I recently spent time driving a 123d. Loved it. Fast, responsive.
Something I would consider.

Eh... didn't read it correctly. But we are only getting the 335d.

I would love to see the 330d over here. It would replace the (old) e90 330, which had similar performance figures.
The 330d could be priced by BMW between the 328 and the 335 and then the 330d would really sell inmho. As it stands it is likely that the 335 will be the top of the range, meaning that it would limit its market appeal.

Is nobody else laughing at how off this is?
Try 4.9-5.1s stock.

It's still pretty impressive that the 330d can get 32/49US MPG on EU cycle. |

I have an E92 330d - remapped to 292bhp and 510lbs torque
40mpg fairly hard everyday driving - 80mph kickdowns in the dry gets the traction control light flickering (Except for the noise and top end rush) I wouldn't change it for a 335i |

They are all exceptional engines -- the 335i, 335d, new 330d, and 323d. I would have a very difficult time choosing among them, each has its merits.

My car's window sticker said 17/26... I think those numbers reflect the 2008 change to the EPA cycle. And, after an 800 mile round trip last Sunday, I know for a fact I was not getting 29 on the freeway. Granted, I only have 1,500 miles on the car (so hopefully mileage will improve slightly), but on one stretch of about 200 miles, at 75 mph, I only got 25.5 MPG according to the computer, which reads a little high.
