USB Resume Problem

Hi,

We recently took delivery of a 2020 M40i, love it but having one issue, if I play music from USB, when I start the car it does not resume at the point I left off, it goes back and plays the first alphabetical song on the drive.

Anyone else experienced this issue? My M240 works flawlessly from the USB.

I’ve not checked one suggested fix yet. USB 3 sticks seem to be the issue. It’s said that USB 2 work ok as does music on the HDD. I have too much music for the HDD so use 2x 256gb sticks...both are 3s.

Seems like a reasonable assumption. Curious why partition format would matter. Maybe their sub-code for that particular function is sourced from a major publisher that has a similar bug.

^In any case, try a reformat. Not sure what the max supported partition size for FAT32 on iDrive 6/7 is, though...

Have you tried to copy you music from the USB stick to the built in hard drive? I am aware that doesn’t actually answer you question, but it may provide a solution.

That does work but I have over 1,000 albums, even as MP3 they wouldn't fit on the HDD. I CBA to keep swapping my selection of music around - I just want it all to be there. It does resume after a brief stop but not once the car has fully shut itself down.

It was fine on my F25....it's even same USB3 stick too.

Similar problem with Ipod

I've noticed similar behavior with my older Ipod. Sometimes I have to disconnect the USB Ipod cable from the car and reconnect. Also, for some strange reason, it sometimes won't play some songs on the Ipod at all.

I've copied those songs (and others) to the Music bank and everything works fine. I may just moved most songs to the car, but I'd rather not.

Thoughts?

I've been doing some messing around... not driving much so taking a lot of time to test...

Both keys are USB3, in fact both are SanDisk UltraFit keys, one is the latest model (256GB) though and the other is a year older (128GB)

The new usb-key was formatted as Fat32, the old one as exfat, formatted them both the same to exfat but had same problems in the X3.

Swapped the usb-keys, the one that is in the 2 resumes like normal in the X3.

Put the new key into the 2, it's only been 2 trips but it seems to resume fine. Really no idea why it would make a difference unless the iDrive 7 in the X3 does something different at startup and the bigger key somehow confuses it...

Likely have a working solution but frustrating problem..
