Hey. This is my fault, but I have had my car for 5 months, and no plates. I'm sure my reason has to be different then yours, but I thought I'd share.

Ha, yeah, consider yourself lucky. I've never had to "wait" more than three weeks for my plates to arrive.

Why do you think having plates will stop people from tailgating you?

are you guys talking about personalized plates? If not , I got mine the same day I registered it. whats the big deal? don't they just hand you one when you pay for your registration fees and/or taxes.. Oh yeah I don't like to ride around without plates. I get harassed by the cops just because I forgot to mount my front plates. and When I was on my bike I got pulled over cause my plates were vertical.

The BMW dealer offered to do that for my mother for a $50 fee when she bought hers . It was done in about 30 minutes and she drove off the lot with new plates and registration. Same thing in NC when I bought my first BMW, Got the registration and plates from the dealer same day. It must suck living in CAli, besides the weather and clean roads.

On average, I've usually gotten my plates in about a month.
On a side note, I think I'm weird...cuz I personally don't like driving around with dealer plates and can't wait for my own plates (at least the back one). I love the new car feel, but the dealer plates make me feel like i'm walking around in a new shirt with the store tags still attached. Yes, I also don't like wearing brand stankin new white sneakers. I usually like to break them in a little around the house before they make a public appearance. Wow....I really do have some issues. |

I bought my car on 08-08-08 and got my plates last Friday (9/12). Took them straight to DMV so I could get them to transfer my personalized plate that came off my STI. Sounds retarded, but they can't even recycle the brand new plates....and I couldn't get them to register my car with my personalized plate until I rec'd the original sequential ones.

Remember, you're in California. The DMV employees are working slower and they're not happy with Governator (they might work at minimum wage as temporary until the State budget passes).
Be patience and your plates will arrive soon.
