No idea on protection but sure seem too flimsy to actually protect.

One of the reasons I went back to the stock 20" M-Sport wheels.

My first G05 had the 21" Y-poke style 741 M wheels, and even as a careful driver I still hit/scraped the rims a few times, mainly in car the park with curb guides.

I had the option of taking my wheels across to my 2019 M-Sport G05, and instead chose to stay with the standard M-Sport wheels - 20" 740 M Bicolours. These wheels are normal profile, but still look good. Had my car since Sept 2019, and they still look like new.

Insurance

Those rim protectors aren't my cup of tea. I got the 21 inch orbit grey wheels, and figured the curb rash insurance would be worth it.

Within the first 2 months, I got some curb rash on one of the wheels, and the insurance covered the ~$200 worth of damage ($0 deductible). Worth the investment.

How much was the curb rash insurance? My dealer only offered rim and tire protection for 3500

3500 seems a bit high I paid around 1500 and have already done two tires and 5 rims.... on the wife's X3... I've done one tire on my X5.

I ended up getting both the wheel & tire insurance priced for me at $2172 and what's called Ding Shield Ultimate, at $1130. I realized quickly that that the wheel & tire insurance wasn't really worth it, since the Ding Shield Ultimate covered curb rash. I cancelled the wheel & tire and kept the ding shield.

I got my curb rash fixed under that ding shield warranty. It primarily fixes things like door dings and other minor damage to the car, which is nice since I live in Atlanta and routinely park in garages with lines that are uncomfortably small.

Check out Alloy Gators. They are top notch. I have used them on several sets of wheels.
