How to tell if a used x3 has driver's assistance features

Group,

I am in the market for a 2018-2019 x3 30i xdrive. I have found a 2018 M sport in my area that looks to be in great shape. The car has a lot of features but the dealer can't seem to tell me what (if any) drivers assistance features it has. My wife wants the mirrors to blink/sound when switching lanes. Is there any way to tell from pics? Any way to tell from the VIN? any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

It should have blind spot detection. You should be able to see yhe arrows etched in the mirror glass.

Just below the control display in the middle of the dash you will find the "Intelligent Safety" button. In the picture below, it's the button with the green circle and a car in the middle (just below the red triangular hazard flashers button).

When you press that button it has an "Individual" setting that enables you to select the individual safety features, turn them on/off and adjust the sensitivity of each. I presume if you press that button you'll be able to tell which intelligent safety features the vehicle is equipped with. Ask the salesman to take a video of the control display while he's pressing that button so you can see what comes up on the control display.

It does not according to Mdecoder. Can this be coded via bimmercode?

No. There are a number of sensors and other equipment missing if driving assistance is not present in the original build. Adding the required equipment would be quite expensive.

Thanks mike!

It appears there are two different lane assist features. One appears in Drivers Assistance package and Drivers Assistance Plus. What's the difference? This particular car I'm looking at also has premium package. In 2018 did that include any of these drivers aid features??

Is there a code 5AS in the mdecoder? That is the driving assistance package, which includes blind spot monitoring (aka lane change warning by BMW naming). There is no separate code for BSM. As far as I know, there is no possibility to code it - not with Bimmercode. I would say, it's more complicated, if at all possible. There is also hardware involved.

I have a 2019 (ordered and built in late 2018) that includes both Drivers Assistance and Drivers Assistance Plus. Realizing that package can vary from year to year, the DA includes active blind spot detection and lane departure warning. The DA+ adds the automatic/distance cruise control and active driving assistant.

I also agree that you can see what features you have by working through the "Intelligent Safety" menu, which is specific to each vehicle. If you click on that button you should see what safety features are included. I know this because my wife also has a 2019 X3 and her menu is different from mine.

Good luck!

Easiest way to know what a vehicle has is by looking at some exterior and interior stuff.

1. If there is another button under the hazard switch with a green circle, that is an driving assist package.

2. Mirrors having the triangle symbol, that is an driving assist package.

3. Looking at the front of the vehicle, look by the mirror, if it has two cameras , it has an driving assist package.

4. Looking at the front of the vehicle, under the licence plate, if it has a camera dead center of the lower grill, it has an driving assist package.

5. Looking at the steering wheel, if it has no blanks on the buttons, it has an driving assist package.

6. Looking at the front door tweeters, if it says Harmon Kardon, it has the HK system.

7. 2018-2019 If the door panels has center stitching going towards the speaker, it has the "real" leather package with interior lighting package.

8. 2018-2019, if the xdrive30i has M40i headlights or full LCD gauge cluster, it has the executive package.

9. If the top of the door panels and dashboard has stitching, it has the fake leather dash and door tops package

10. Other quick obvious things are differences in wheels, bumpers and other misc exterior / interior packages or accessories. anyone could tell if it has a trailer hitch ect.

11. Cooled front seats don't have shoulders that stick up by the head rests. it's curved and the stitching going sideways runs higher up the seat. Another easy way, is if the climate control has no blank buttons.

12. Rear heated seats, rear climate control will have the two buttons (no blank buttons).

These are the quickest way to tell the differences without having to use a vin decoder.

I didn't break down the specific packages but it's part of a driving assist package and or assist plus package.
