This was posted about back in 2018 when the article was new, and it’s been my dream to do this ever since. If I remember correctly, the base vehicle that LW used was an M240i, and they only really made it look like an M2. I’d start with an M235i, and try to find a wrecked M2 and swap the whole sub frames over.
