I've searched but I'm still confused about amp remote-on power

I'm going to be installing a sub and amp in my car so I've been reading and searching on here to see what people use for the remote turn-on trigger for the amp. Some of the options I've read about are using the small black wire from the factory amp, any random speaker wire from the amp, running a wire from the rear cigarette lighter, buying an LVT box or buying the Trunk LOC that includes an amp trigger. I'd really like to keep it simple and cheap, so it seems using the black wire or a speaker wire would be the best choice here. But although I've read of people suggesting these two choices I haven't really read of anyone actually using these and having them work. Can anyone confirm that they do in fact use either of these two choices and that they work flawlessly? I have the HiFi system. Thanks.

i have the trunk LOC and it works great for me. i have logic 7, but it shoouldnt be any different when you hook it up to the oem amp. just make sure you tap into the the correct wires for the subs and use one of those wires from the sub as a remote from the LOC.

Thanks. I'd prefer not to have to buy the Trunk LOC if the black wire or a speaker wire will work. Anyone else using one of these methods?

if you dont want to spend the $20 bucks on the trunk loc; why dont you just try the method you are asking about??? i dont see what the big deal is spending $20 bucks on a sure method that works. i rather spend the extra $20 bucks than damage the sound system.

Yeah, I should just buy it, but I always like to save money when I can. It seemed like a waste too since I already have a line-level converter. I also didn't want to have to wait a few more days to get my sub hooked up. But since nobody replied about the black wire I did go out and try it today on my car. The multimeter showed power when the car was on and then no power after the car was off, so I guess it must work. I'll be hooking my amp up in the next few days, I'll post whether it works or not when connected.

I used the black wire in there. It's there and it works. I run an amp and a DQX off of it. It IS the remote turn on wire. You don't need to buy anything, just wire that.

Good luck.
