speedometer not work

Hi, I have this wired problem today, my car is 08' e90 335i. What happen is I start my car after coming out from shopping mall, while I was driving home, i notice that the speedometer is not working, it looks like it hangs and the needle always keeps at 0 km/h. Also the odometer and trip odometer is not working too. But the tachometer is working fine. So.. what I do is turn off the car for around 5 min, start the car, then everything back to normal.

Anyone have experience this problem before? And do I have to do anything about it even though it is fine now.

you should have just gunned it, and if you get pulled over...

Officer: "Do you know how fast you were going?"
You: "I have no idea, my speedometer just broke..."
Officer: "Que?"

I've had a dozen or so weird electrical issues happen with my BMWs that never ever happened again, but ya this is a new one.

In some extremely rare instances, static electricity in the dash can actually hold the needle stationary. It could also be a small piece of debris got in the mechanism for the speed and temporarily jammed it.

Impossible to say, but I'd be back at the dealer with it if it happens again.

I would have drove as far and as long as I could, with no worry of racking on any miles.

Haha if it's a lease, the dealer would have no idea if you went over on miles if it randomly stops tracking miles.
