Hot air from AC

We had some chilly days here in TO and yet every-time I start the car it blows warm air inside. Car was not driven for around 8 hours.
When I turn on the AC it cools things down.
Shouldn't I be able to use just the fan when its nice temprature outside?

Also, has some-one else noticed intermittent gassy smell immediately after starting the car, wth is that smell?

It has been pretty warm around here. So when I turn on the AC, my e90 blows hot air for like 2 minutes before it starts to cool down. WTF?

Im not a mechanic but i had a similar problem with my x5. They told me it was the auxillary fan. I could be wrong but worth a shot to look into it. good luck

the hotter the outside temperature the harder it is for the ac system to cool the air...however bmw's are known for a jam up ac system...my mom had a 1995 Toyota Corolla and I think you can take that thing to hell and it will still blow cold air...its crazy..some cars are just superior to others about ac systems

It just seems that hot air is being heated on purpose even though the temprature set to minimum. True it has not been consistent.
This is my first BMW and first car with auto climate control so I cant really judge. On all my previous cars I was able tp keep fan down, switch fo external air to come in, and it would be good enough for this time of the year.

Did you rotate the knob between the center vents to blue?

Ya i notice this also even set to 16 C it still puts in warm air,
probably cause its really hot under the hooded especially with a tune.
I just shut mine off completely unless I want heat or AC.
