High idle on cold start

Forgive me if this is already covered elsewhere, but wanted to see if this is normal.

On cold start, car starts at 1500 rpm and holds normally. Once I back out of the driveway the rpm goes up to 2k+ for 15 seconds or so. It feels completely out of whack but eventually settles.

Is this normal? No idea why BMW would have the car behave like this on purpose.

my situation is abit different from yours. usually car starts up and holds around 1.3k rpm. mine held at 2k reply for quite sometime before settling down. this happened once and did not come back.
