Stone chips

damn chips on these cars, seems like stones only have to touch the paint to leave a hole.
Someone said the black paint is soft, what crap, they all covered in the same clear coat no matter what colour, so soft paint is out the window, poor clear maybe.
I had an Audi A6 years ago and the paint on that seemed to be rock hard compared to the junk on BMWs

Joke aside - feel your pain. However please note the highlighted in red keyword in your comment.
Years ago all paints (and clear-coats) used to be harder. Until environmental regulations mandated use of water-based products. Welcome to the new era.

Tip - the only effective protection against stone chips is PPF. If your car is still new (and not full of stone chips) and you care about it - you might want to consider it.
It also certainly helps not driving up people's rear bumpers. Even then though occasional stone hits are unavoidable.
I was shocked that I registered the first stone chips on the front bumper just after 300-400 km.

I agree, this is my first BMW after a 35 year driving history of multiple other vehicles and none of them has suffered stone chips like the BMW.
My wife's 6 year old 107 with 70K miles on the clock has less stone chips on it than my 2 year old BMW with with just 12k on the clock.
For a premium brand it's pretty poor.
