I get it! You're getting old and your knees are not supportive.

The past 2 years, I have been working on quite some F90 M5.

I was having the same debate since I did able to drive one of my customer's M5 for a few days.
Loved it.

Then F97 X3MC was having a tour.
I managed to test drove 4 of them at 4 different occasions.

I am sold on F97 X3MC because it is easier to get in and out, plenty of power (close enough to M5), more nimble than M5, and it is 6 cylinder.
I do want the V8TT rumble, but when I had V8TT on F06 650GC, it is tough to use it daily.
It just not as fun if you are driving it normally.

Inline 6 TT is much more fun to use for daily drive.

So, IMO, you are not crazy.
Ideally is to move to F95 X5M.

I will test drive it when it is available and I may pick up one.

So the X3M,heavier and taller than the M5, is 'more nimble' you say

maybe he is referring to the reduced weight of the straight 6 engine of the front improving turn in and reducing understeer in that sense?

5510LBS of X3M vs 5380LBS of M5 (number sourced from Google).
130LBS difference and X3M suspension is tighter than M5. IMO. I may be biased too since the M5 wasn't mine, so I don't drive it like I stole it.

Besides, after my 210LBS, that much weight difference won't even matter.

On my race scales my M5 was 4300lbs. My wife’s X3MC is 4435lbs. Both are slick tops. M5 kills the X3MC in acceleration and handling due to power and ride height. M5 is a 7:3x at the Ring. It gets it done. Pure stock at 3700ft DA, the M5 ran 11.2 and the X3MC ran 11.7 in the 1/4 mile. Both are very fast for their segment. No times yet for the X3MC at the Ring, but I’ll be let down if it doesn’t go into the high 7’s. It handles that good. Not M5 quick, but very quick.

X3MC is very capable and very fun to drive. It does “drive smaller” than the M5 since it has a smaller footprint and is taller.

Interior is hands down the best in the M5.

Both are very quiet at a 70mph Cruise.

M5 rides softer.

Exhaust sound is by far the best in the M5.

Utility wise, hands down X3MC.

Both are top of their segment. The older you get , the more you appreciate a taller entry/exit.

In Feb of last year I purchased new X4-M40i after having several M3's. Liked the vehicle just fine, was fast enough for me but I just hated that everybody and their Brother, Mom and Wife are driving SUV's now a' days, So back to M car for me. YMMV.

M5 weighs 4300 lbs roughly and the X3M about 4600 and is 8 inches higher. There is no way it is more nimble. I loved my Macan GTS and would buy another one without hesitation as it feels more sports car than it does SUV so I can see the allure as more cars try to enter this segment.

Ease of getting in/out, convenience and utility should not cloud one's judgement! This is kind of gaslighting.

Let's get limeypride in this too since I let him use my X3MC while I was working on his M8C GC yesterday.

He has 2 F90 M5 and 2 days ago picked up M8C GC.

Happy to chime in. There's a lot going on here, was there something specific I can throw an opinion about into the mix?

Difference between F90 M5C to F97 X3MC.
Handling, power, comfort, and interior quality.

Don't compare it to you M8C. That interior is crazy comfortable and luxurious.
