On BMW website, m240i is no longer available to be built. Has the production of m240i ended in the UK?

They're not the most popular of models over here. We tend to go now down the diesel route and have the 218, 220 and 225 to go at.

The 218 petrol is the most common of the petrol engines. We don't tend to go for big petrol engines.

In saying that had they'd have offered the m240 in Valencia Orange I'd considered it.

I just selected the M240i on the UK site, it is under 2-series "M" models, not under the default 2-series SE models followed by selecting the engine. No manual transmission available on the M240i in the UK now, though, still available for North America, though.

That's a prophetic trend..

I call it now; the next generation 2 Series coupe will not be offered with a manual transmission option, not even in the US market.

I'm frankly surprise it even made it this far, in time.

No, the G20 M340i has an active LSD, which is identically (same part number) to that of the official M models, capable of variable locking from 0 to 100%, depending ECU logic and needed demand.

The M240i has a mechanical LSD option but it's lock-up is capped at 30%.

Am I correct in thinking that all m240i has electronic differential that becomes active in traction mode (when stabilisation switch is partially deactivated). I remember I read something like that on this forum

Stock, the M240i doesn't come with a mechanically LSD, that's an aftersale option.

Instead, it features something called "e-Diff" which uses the rear brakes to vector torque from one wheel to the other but at it's core, it's still an open diff and is not as a efficient as the electronic-controlled LSD in the G-Generation M340i or M cars..

No, like my M235i and all other 2 Series, it has a traction system that includes the ability to monitor slip and use the wheel on any brake to limit slipping, called 'eDIFF'. It's certainly a useful feature, but not the same as the mechanical Limited Slip Differential (LSD) that's available as a retro-fit M Performance LSD from dealers.

I had my M235i for a couple of years before I retro-fitted the M Performance LSD, which I thought was value for money (I'm keeping my car indefinitely, so have a longer-term cost/benefit viewpoint). The eDIFF isn't as responsive or progressive as the LSD: on the bigger-engine variants, the difference is amplified.

Really, the M235i/M240i should come with this as standard, but the forum thinking is that this would make it so close to the M2 that the cost premium for the M2 would deter buyers.
