M Performance Brake Kit on my 435i xDrive

Hi guys,

This summer I'm gonna be upgrading my car and would like to put on a set of painted calipers. I'm looking at a full m-performance kit

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...4112221446kt3/

My only problem is, I heard that some coding has to go into this and I don't want to do it wrong.

Currently I have the standard brakes with the 4 piston calipers in front (340x30 rotors), and the 2 piston calipers in the back (300x30 rotors). The kit has the 4 pistons in front and 2 pistons in back as well.

Would I still have to do some coding to make this happen?

I will also be flushing my brake fluid during this, and will upgrade my brake lines, anyone recommend a specific brand?

Thanks,
Michael C.

Are your rear calipers currently powdercoated in any color?

If not, then they are NOT 2 piston they are 1 piston Bosch calipers and retrofit coding is supposed to be done...

These are rear 1 piston:

These are rear 2 piston:

I use the Exact-Fit Stainless Steel Brake Lines from ECSTuning

Yes they aren't painted, I thought they were still two piston though. Do you know if I would have to have BMW code the new rears for me, or is there a way to do this at home? Also I'm guessing the fronts wouldn't need coding.

You can download esys and codes yourself.. Just search in the coding section

My understanding is that what is being coded is the front/rear brake bias, not the individual front or rear brakes. I had the same 340/330 original brakes. Now I have 370/345. Two different experienced BMW technicians told me that no coding was necessary because BMW uses the same coding for both configurations. I was told that if my originals were smaller than the 340/330, then coding would have been necessary.

That being said, I had the 340/330 rotors with the 4 piston fronts/1 piston rears on my 435 from factory.

Upgraded to the M4 blue calipers 4 piston fronts/2 piston rears with 370/345 & did NOT code the SPBR brake option

That was 2 yrs ago and I have never had any problems with my brakes or brake feel. I'm using Porterfield pads - braking is much better than factory

So while some will state you HAVE to code, I agree with others that say it is not always necessary.

I don't in any way feel my brakes are unsafe & would definitely have someone code them if I did.

Not telling you what to do with yours - just relating my experience...

And yes, the coding is for the entire system, not just the fronts or rears individually

But coding, if you decide to go that route can be done by:
  • Dealer (this is usually part of the brake upgrade retrofit where they would do all the mechanical install also)
  • DIY using free download ESYS (and some help from forum on actual coding needed from coding section)
  • Remote coding where all you need is a laptop + cable & vendor who knows how to code sets up a remote session to do it for you

johnung 1QuikWS6 I just spoke to a service supervisor at one of the BMW dealer's nearby and they said that no coding or any work is done on the car when installing their m performance brake kit, so looks like I'm all good. Thank you guys for the help!

Quick question, I have a 340i with 4-piston calipers up front (stock gray) and 1 piston rear (non-painted). Quetion on Heat Shields.

Looking at RealOEM - it appears the heat shields are all the same regardless of the upgraded calipers in front / rear, however this kit comes with new heat shields? For what? If I owned a 320, 328, or 330?

@CntryClub007 I believe they are actually bigger, but I could be wrong. Just to be safe I'd buy the whole kit. I'm also buying new brake lines, and flushing my brake fluid.

Ya, I'm doing lines / fluid and all of that shit too, so long as I'll be in there.

Anyone know the actual part numbers of the heat shields that come with the "full kit"? I seriously don't think I need them, but really curious as RealOEM.com is often correct.

Essentially my 340i is getting the same part number for gear shields with and without the S2NHA option.

@CntryClub007 I would just buy the full kit as the new rotors increase in diameter which will probably mean the brake shield needs to be bigger too.

I just got M-performance brakes installed on my F36 435d
And the heat shields in the back did not fit.

And according to the shop you need to disassemble/change the wheel bearings to get them off.
They just fitted the old ones again and it works fine
The numbers in the kit are

Thanks for the pictures, but a little confused with the wording above. You said the heat shields in the back did not fit with the kit you purchased (which I assume is this kit?

https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...kgUGFnZQ%3D%3D

But then they fitted the old ones fine? Is the issue the caliper clearance or a bigger shield because of a bigger rotor and protecting the rotor.

Yes thats the kit I ordered.
Yes according to the shop, the old ones were big enough for the new discs.
The holes for fitting in the new ones did not fit the car.
If it's because mine is a pre-LCI, that could be the reason.
Otherwise I don't know why since I gave Leebmann24 the last 7 digits of my VIN number when ordering the kit
