LOL, I know someone with a 535 that puts 87 octane. I was speechless when he told me.

I'm sure the x35i runs better with high octane lol
I only put 93 in the baby.... in fact I have 12 gallons of 87 in the garage, was preparing for hurrican Ike as when a storm is coming magically you can't get gas around here lol, now that there is no trouble, my wife says.... put that in your tank so its not sitting in the garage.. lmao.. I had to learn her a lesson

I know alot of people that use 87 regularly in their BMW and other cars like Mercedes, Audi's, Lexus and Infinitis. . . .
None of them have any problems. . . I would think they just won't get very good gas mileage. |

And considering that potential side-effect, you'd think that they'd just shell out the extra cash for the proper gas up front.

The computer adjusts it so it doesn't cause a problem. Even mythbusters said there wasn't a real advantage in doing so

87 is ok on a 328, but 89 is required for a 335.
I was getting fuel and a guy in a SL 65 AMG filled it with regular. That I could see, the Benz is probably fine, and who cares if you're cruising and most likely leasing? Now if a guy in a 997 Turbo did that, I would find it odd. |

the ECU should automatically adjust the timing when a lower octane gas is put in...91 may be recommended by with 87 or 89 you will just have lower performance

Mental note "don't let people you know buy used BMWs that were loaner cars unless it is someone you hate".

Who uses 89? It's either 87 or 91+ .. using 89 just doesn't make sense |

Then put the right gas in it and you'll get better performance.
