Underhood pad on 2008 e92

Ok, so my '07 e92 had a pad attached to the underside of the hood. Maybe to keep engine heat from roasting the paint on top of the hood? My '08 doesn't have anything there. Anyone have any science they can drop on me?

HAHAHA!! Wow i thought i was the only person this happened to. I was thinking the same thing but im sure they forgot to put one on in the factory cuz all the 08's have them. All i did was steal one from work off another car. LOL

do a search.. BMW stopped putting them on cars after a certain date. there is a bulletin on this... my car has it but i want to remove it so my engine sounds louder, but im scared.. does anyone know if it is safe to remove?

You're not the only one to notice this. I had started a thread last week on this, thinking it was accidentally missed.

There is a SIB (internal service bulletin) that explains it. The short of it: BMW saved some money by leaving it out...
