Winter Q: 205/50 vs 225/45 same tire

First winter with the ZSP 335i, thinking of 17" Blizzak LM-25s. Realistically what am I giving up traction-wise with the 225s compared to 205s? The car is my daily driver but I don't expect to drive it in deep snow, got an X5 for that.

205 on a 8.5" rim might be a stretch. For traction in snow, I'd prefer 205 to 225. On 911 here in winter, we see 205 in front and 225 in rear.

Since you have the X5 for serious snow, go with the 225's on your 335i. I can break the 225's loose pretty easy - I can't imagine going with less less traction!

You will be fine with the 225 setup all around.. if the snow is really deep, take the truck

The 225 will give you more traction on packed snow and ice and less ability in fresh snow. Ask yourself what you drive on more and you have your answer.

For wheels 8" or wider, stick with 225.

Yea, 225 is your better choice. A 205 on a 8" wheel is definitely a stretch you don't want on a winter setup.
